Taskbar Pins. Right Click Menu Doesn't Work.

So i'm aware that there are numerous other threads complaining about this problem, but after spending hours upon hours reading through each one of them, my problem is still not fixed.

    Windows 10, Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.778)

    1) When i right-click onto any pinned items on the task bar, the menu shows up, but they don't do anything. Left clicks still work fine.

    2) For Windows Explorer pinned on the taskbar, the clicking anything on the quick access section on the right-click menu will just result in an error, "The item you selected is unavailable.". Quick access works just fine in Windows Explorer.

I've attempted numerous things, such as disabling any non-Windows services (don't have a lot of them).

For anyone asking, this problem just popped up today, or maybe i just noticed it today, but its definitely very recent, as it was working 2 days ago. And no, i can't pinpoint what i have installed exactly that led to this problem.

If anyone can help me resolve this problem, i would be very grateful.

In case the attachments don't work, here are the imgur links : (I hope i don't break any forum rules with these)

Hi, if you create a new user for test purposes, do you see the same when logged in as that user? (This is a useful diagnostic check).

Have you tried using a system restore point, if available?

Do you have a recently created disk image? Routinely using disk imaging so you can restore to a previous good state is recommended here time and again. Can help to avoid the need for technical help and save time.

History: what changes have you made or have there been any updates in this period?
    Tweaks? Registry hacks?

You can list recently installed programs if you are confusd about that. And conversely, have you uninstalled any?

    Hi, thanks for replying.

    1) I have attempted to create a new user, and yes, the problem persists on the new user account.
    2) Sadly, i have not made any system restore points.

    3) The only things i did resembling a registry edit are editing my ethernet name on secpol.msc, and scheduling a startup for ThrottleStop on Task Scheduler.

    4) Recently Installed Programs :
    - GIGABYTE Control Center (Today, 28/04) -> Reinstalled Control Center to a newer version, old version was buggy.
    - Intel XTU (Today, 28/04) -> Comes with Control Center.
    - Deceit (26/04)
    - Halo : The Masterchief Collection (26/04)
    - Wondershare Filmora9 Free Version (23/04)

I uninstalled GIGABYTE Control Center today, and proceeded to reinstall the newer version.

In case you need details, i'm running a GIGABYTE Aero-15 Classic-XA Laptop.

    Edit : Added attatchment.

Please try booting to Safe Mode and advise if the same problem exists.

The most likely explanation of course is that it's related to one of the changes you have made. If so, that must be something common to any account.

Example of uninstalling a program solving this - post #12
    Jump List Items not Opening

Have you seen this quite detailed account?

Thanks for the links! Maybe i haven't been searching with the correct keywords, since i didn't know they were called "jump lists". They've provided valuable insight, but i still can't fix this problem.

The problem goes away in safe mode.

That does remind me however, i did recently uninstall Visual Studio Community 2019 in my attempts to fix this yesterday.

Good- that it works in Safe Mode tends to indicate 3rd party interference- and we know that's something common to any user.
I.e. fixing Windows probably isn't the answer.

Given the recent changes you've made, should give you something to go on as I can't tell you which change you've made might be responsible. Either research or reverse the change.

Very sorry for the double post, but i have successfully resolved this problem.

    I did two things.

    1) From the link you gave me.
(I'm not sure this one solved it, but i'll put it here anyways, since it DID NOT WORK without the 1 minute delay, whether it works WITH the 1 minute delay, i don't know.)
    Run Task Scheduler (Winkey+R → taskschd.msc)

    • Click Action and select Create Basic Task...

    • Enter a name and click Next

    • Select the When I log on , click Next

    • Select Start a program, click Next

    • Paste the following script %SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,SHCreateLocalServerRunDll {c82192ee-6cb5-4bc0-9ef0-fb818773790a} Click Next and select Yes on the pop-up window, then Finish

Restart your computer and hopefully you'll have your problem fixed!

Edit: In case this does not work, try to edit the trigger to Delay task for 1 minute by right clicking the task you created, then selecting Properties then Triggers and Edit...
    2) Something i found on microsoft forums.
(I am 90% sure this resolved it)
    1. Open regedit.exe (Win+R)
    2. Navigate to: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced"
    3. Create a new "Dword (32-bit) value"
    4. Name it "EnableXamlJumpView"
    5. Set its value to 1
    Restart PC
Thankyou so much @dalchina ! +1 from me.

Yeah, couldn't think of anything (maybe Visual Studio ?) that would mess up jump lists, much less mess up registry (as a "fix" to registry solved the problem).

Thanks... if that reg Dword helped you, then it's curious I don't have that at all...

I think I saw that mentioned in one thing I scanned as you said.

The first I think is described as a sort of workaround... if so the basic cause still exists.

I'm still not 100% sure whether it was the Dword or the
    %SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,SHCreateLocalServerRunDll {c82192ee-6cb5-4bc0-9ef0-fb818773790a}
    script on Task Scheduler.

One thing i'm sure of, is that if you hadn't posted those links, today would've just ended like yesterday, 8 hours of fruitless searching . Thank god for the quarantine. Lol .

    - - - Updated - - -

So i did some testing, and i was mistaken, it's actually the script i put on task scheduler, somehow it only works with the 1-minute delay.

Anyone else encountering this problem, i hope this helps.

Thanks- this is definitely a fudge fix rather than correcting the actual problem... please advise after you next get a feature update (upgrade) whether you still need the task.

Can't open new File Explorer windows by right click on Windows 10 - Super User

    - using Shellexview (free to download and install) to selectively disable and identify a problem (non-MS) shell extension fixes this
    - an in-place upgrade repair (and thus an upgrade also) fixes this
