Bypassing the password is too much of a pain, Better to do a clean install of Windows 10 since it can handle 8 it
will handle 10.
Besides no matter if the computer top of the line , a used Computer is like a used car
It carries with it the former owners errors and problems.
Every used computer I have gotten the 1st thing I do is a clean install.
If this is a bios password on this particular HDD then you may not be able to clean install to it either.
If so, then you may well need to replace the HDD before you can install Windows 10. That would be a good excuse to upgrade it to an SSD.
The good news is that a machine built for and supplied with an OEM Windows 8 will have its W8 key embedded in its bios. In a clean install of W10 Setup will detect this key, use it to choose the edition to install (Home or Pro) and to activate it with a Digital License.
If this is a BIOS password I would check if there is also a password to get into BIOS. If so I would do as Paul suggested, get the the passwords.
These are Lenovo's instructions for removing the HDD password, but you'll need to know the old password to do it.
