Size of Quick Launch icons changed

    Hello all,

I have a very populated Quick Launch area with the icons set to small on my work computer. Today I found that the icons in the QL changed in size; previously I had the task bar two lines high and two lines of icons fit in the area. If I want to fit two lines of icons in QL area again, I need to increase the height of the taskbar to three lines. See screenshots.

This happened after some update our IT made to get rid of another problem with my system (one that was actually affecting my work, not just my comfort). Since this is a work computer, I can't touch the registries (I don't have any experience with that anyway).

Is there any known way to get the icons to the same displayed height as the taskbar? The extra space below is driving me crazy.

Hello hekko, and welcome to Ten Forums.

You can drag the double lines just to the right of the Quick Launch toolbar to the right until all the icons in Quick Launch show.

    Hi Brink,

Thanks, but if I have to live with the icons this size, I prefer the three-lines height of the panel to single-file Quick Launch.

That's ok. Check using step 6 in option 1 in the same tutorial above to change the size of the icons in the Quick Launch toolbar.

They are set to small; the big icons options makes them visibly bigger.

I compared the size to my home machine QL area (that one is Win7 so I guess safe for now) and it looks like the icons themselves are visibly about the same size, look at this:

Or maybe it was the size of the taskbar that changed? It's hard to compare directly but it looks like there is a little bit more of empty space around the icons on the Win7 machine.

You can check your DPI scaling settings using option 1 below to see if you may have increased it by mistake causing everything to appear larger.

Change DPI Scaling Level for Displays in Windows 10

    AND

Check screen resolution to see if you may have lowered it by mistake causing everything to appear larger.

I can't change those settings while being connected remotely (so I guess I couldn't have done it accidentaly, nor the IT guy who also works on my machine remotely when necessary). But I'll try that when I get to actually go to work in my physical form one day.

I think the probability of this is low, because it's only the icons in the Quick Launch area that suddenly need more (vertical) space. I wouldn't have noticed had everything been scaled up the same because then the icons would still fit two rows in two rows.

Thanks for your patience and many suggestions, Brink.

I found a possible workaround. If I turn off "use small taskbark buttons" in the taskbar settings, the application buttons become slightly bigger, each "line" of the taskbar becomes slightly bigger as well, and the quick launch icons fit as before. Everything is a little bigger, but it seems to be more of a same size variety.

The seach icon has new option - not just show and not show, but it can show as an icon or as a search field.

Here are the two options side by side:

I'd be happier with the smaller size of everything, but I can live with this.
