    New shortcut icon symbol?

After reinstalling Windows 10 due to a problem I posted here, I started to reinstall programs. When I went to arrange the Desktop icons I noticed there are now two different styles in the shortcuts, one being the old arrow.

Besides the shortcuts, a new JPG image I saved on the Desktop also shows that new symbol. That is, it's not a shortcut, it's the very image.

Is it a novelty in the system or is it some kind of new problem?

I believe the checkmark on the image file indicates that it's synced to your OneDrive folder.

If there is a picture in the program folder, it will use this in the shortcut.

OK, but I don't get it. Why would I need a program Desktop shortcut synced with OneDrive?
Never been an OneDrive fan BTW.

If the Desktop folder is auto backed up to OneDrive, even shortcuts are synced. Not the app , just the shortcut. It's in the folder.

Check to see if these are set, if they are this is why.

click the cloud icon > More > Settings > Manage Backup.

Uncheck each, then close with upper right X.

But after I deselected Desktop and closed OneDrive settings and all, the two images I captured and saved on the Desktop to post here were not on the Desktop anymore. Instead, a shortcut named Where are my files appeared. I opened it to find that the items (program shortcuts and images) that were on the Desktop are now in Desktop > OneDrive.

So it seems it didn't stop to sync them and moved them to this "special folder". That sort of things is why I am not a fan of OneDrive. It's tends to be confusing, counterintuitive, misleading, and counterproductive.
You can just delete that annoying desktop icon "where are blah blah blah". MS junk.

Least it got the other desktop icon off and it will stay off. OneDrive tends to get twirky and can be confusing. Best to keep to the simplest setup you can.

    Hope all that helped.

Get rid of the shortcut arrow(s)/symbol(s) altogether
