Why can't I delete certain entries from the Registry as Administrator?

    Hi all -

I'm trying to cleanup certain portions of the registry, being extremely careful.
However, when I try to delete entries from this area of the registry, I cannot - even as true Administrator.

Why is that and is there a simple workaround? It's not crucial.

    Note this highlighted section below.

I wish to delete duplicate/errant/old entries from the right side of the window pane.

    Thanks!

Permissions, by the looks of it. Administrators have Read access only. You should be able to grant Administrators full control.

Those are entries owned by TrustedInstaller so even Administrator cannot delete them. IMO, best way is to download a portable program PowerRun:
PowerRun v1.4 (Run with highest privileges)
Run it then drop "regedit.exe" into the PowerRun windows to run which effectively run as TrustedInstaller then you should be able to remove them from the registry.

My screenshot in post #2 clearly shows that while only Trustedinstaller has full control, the owner of the key is actually Administrators. That means, as a member of the group that owns the key, an administrator can grant the Administrators group full access. That allows values to be deleted (I've tested that).

True. However, You will need to change ownership for each entry as TrustedInstaller in order to remove the entry from the Registry which is more tedious then just run PowerRun as TrustedInstaller which has full control.

No, once Administrators has full control of the key, any or all values in that key can be deleted, as I have just done here:

Which is what Compumind wants to do...

Not saying that your method does not work but with PowerRun, you would not have to mess with permission. Also it can do a lot more than just remove entry from registry.

Thanks for all the replies -

I thought that it would involve granting permissions, though being a true Administrator tends to defy my logic that I would not have full control.
    I'll give PowerRun a shot.

    Will report back.

    It worked beautifully.
PowerRun is now part of my software arsenal.

    Thank you!

This plus RegistryWorkshop allowed me to quickly search through the registry for VID_046D and delete all the Logitech remnants that were borking my Unifying receiver.
