Please help with loss of files if possible...

Hi,I'll try to provide system info to begin with but don't really know what I'm doing here:Windows 10 Pro version 1903 OS build 18362.720 Installed RAM 12.0 GB (11.8 GB usable)Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3220 CPU @ 3.30 GHz64-bit operating system, x64-based processorFile system: NTFS Used space: 170 GB Free space: 61.6 GBWDC WD2502ABYS-18B7A0 Disk drivesBaseBoard Manufacturer LENOVO Version Win8 Pro DPK TPGMy hard drive was getting full so I bought an external hard drive. Since I'm cheap I got the cheapest one that said it does a terabyte. On it it says: 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD External Case USB3. 0 Support 3TB it also has a list of things on the back, here are some of them:
    1. During format process, our hard disk will choose exFAT automatically as default efficient format. Please DO NOT select NTFS manually, this format is not supported by our hard disk, will cause disk crash.3. QC Passed, Hard Disk Formatted already before packing & shipping, there is no need to reformat when first use.4. Special attention to our products (partitions are not supported), partitioning will cause damage to the hard disk. For safer and longer service life, use it directly as one independent partition.I didn't try formatting or anything and it didn't say anything about it itself. I tested it by moving one folder with some pictures to it and it seemed to do okay. So like a moron I trusted it then thinking it was good and really easy so tried moving a big folder containing a bunch of other folders and videos and documents it was all about 50 gig. Things looked like they were going well so I left it alone for about an hour and a half and after that it appeared to have done everything right. But!!! When I tried to open some folders and look at some videos it would lock up with that blue circle thing spinning around and it would say the folder was not responding. The icons are there and look right, but when I check the properties it says it's only about 7 gig, not about 50 as it should be. Some of the documents open but other things will not. So am I totally screwed now? Or is there some way to recover by re-setting my computer to 24 hours ago, or 48, or some time in the past before I made this terrible mistake of trusting that external hard drive? Is there any way to get back the way it was?Thank you for any help!DavidMaine, USA

I'm trying to move some of the folders back. One of them says 6 gig and when I try to right click drag and copy it says it's preparing to copy but then it never actually does the job. Is there any way to make it do it?

Oh wow probably then. I didn't include:

    2. Only Data Storage, Read & Write is supported on MAC OS, formatting is not supported on MAC OS otherwise it will damage the disk.

so is that saying it's meant for MAC so I screwed up getting it? Some of the files and videos seem okay and others don't...the vids where you can see a picture on the icon I've been able to move back to the computer but the ones that don't show a picture just lock things down. If I download JAVA and then HFSExplorer might it make all files retrievable so I can get everything back off of this horrible drive? If I download and install JAVA will HFSExplorer be able to find it?

It looks like in order to use it you have to let it install other things that I don't want...things to take over my browser and make whatever complications. Sounds right, right?

It sound as though you currently have no backups - if so, messing about trying to copy files back from the drive may make matters worse. Before you go any further, buy a cheap (say 32GB, <$10, supports FAT32) USB flash drive and copy (not move !) the most critical files (that you still have) onto it. When you are happy you have working copies, then check out the drive you just bought: it sounds rather fishy to me that it can only support exFAT. The warning about not supporting formatting on MAC-OS may mean just that - it does not necessarily follow that formatting under Windows is restricted (it may be a subtle difference in language interpretation).

What size is it, and is it HDD or SDD and what did it cost?

2TB Portable External Hard Drive Disk HDD USB 3.0 2.5'' for PC / Laptop Black USItem price USD 45.95

If I format it I lose everything on it, right? Some of the videos have a picture on the icon and I've been able to retrieve almost all of those, but many/most have an icon with no picture and just highlighting them locks things down...forget about trying to move or open them. Maybe if I used the right program to help as one person suggested it might be enough to get everything back. I tried loading HFSExplorer a couple of times but it seems to require accepting junk programs that want to interfere with your browser or it won't allow you to have it. Maybe there are other ways...???

Ahh, so I tried downloading the zip file hoping there might be other options and it acts like it downloads but I can never find it. Then when I click on the message bar in Chrome that shows where it downloaded it does something and then says "Removed". I'm guessing in previous attempts it loaded some sort of virus type program on my computer which will result in lots of other problems in the future and I'm just seeing the beginnings of that hell now.

Yup it seems that it installed a virus called Segurazo virus removal or some such thing and I believe that is what wouldn't allow the zip download. Will try again now that I removed it, I hope!

Yup that's what happened. The Sequarazo virus was removing the zip file. So finally I got it to stay and opened it in a folder I made for it in the Download folder, not knowing what else to do with it and not wanting it to make a mess all over the desk top or something, and ran the exe but it says No file system loaded and won't autodetect so I don't know if it can't read that disk at all or I can't get it to see it or what's screwing me now....

Yes I did, but wonder what other virus type things trying to install HFSExplorer infected me with that I don't know about yet.
