Hello Yet another 'isolato' joins the merry throng of 'Tens' - the OS - not the physical age The mental age might be closer to 10 in my case. I've discovered a solution to a W10 issue I had and wanted to share it with the world. Am I the only guy who uses his TV set as a monitor? I found the HDMI didn't work so I went back to using a VGA connection to my Desktop PC [Lenovo is the sales brand]

    Hi all,

Like many of the latest newcomers I'm here because I have more time due to lack of work due to Covid.

I was working in the live entertainment industry as a sound and lighting engineer but we are completely shutdown in Australia and it may be that way for months to come although we have few active cases left.

However in my past life I have been a computer engineer specialising in micro computing hardware and software and also worked as a computer systems administrator (running Westfield Shopping Centre's computer system worldwide at one stage).

I'm extremely experienced in low level computer programming and large Unix systems as well as Windows NT (which Windows 10 is the latest version).

What brought me here is that I noticed a weird named tasks of the form "{c092b15a-a322-4688-630fe8d1a911}" in the Windows 10 Task Scheduler log of which there was no other reference. On googling I found various articles including some on this forum and on investigating further I found what this task was. I posted the answer (link below) on a Microsoft site in relationship to an article there but it turns out this article was posted here too.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...e-5815f2a2604e

I now gone a step further and written a small app to reveal info on these tasks which I will post on another thread here.

    Cheers :)

Welcome to Ten Forums @Andy Bruin

That's a good skill set you have there, and the mindset of a detective to go with it. Looks like you'll be a great addition to these forums. Oh, and you'll find several other sound engineers here too.
Thanks Bree. It's always nice to be welcome.

My mentioned skillset is only the tip of the iceberg. At my age (50s) means I've been around for I while. One recent one was completely opposite to the digital world which was setting up a record vinyl manufacturing plant. This drew on my traineeship as an electrical/process engineer in the 80's at AWA (a very large Australian electronic manufacturing firm pre 90's).

One of my first computing achievements was to be the first person probably to program an Apple in Sydney Australia. I was in year 10 (15 years old) and the year was 1978. The computer was an Apple II and the place was Computerland in the city run by a person called Rudi Hoess. I think I spent almost every Saturday there and all of my school holidays. My first program was in Basic and was a version of pong. Eventually I persuaded my school and the P&C to buy a few Apples but they finally turned up a week after I finished high school. Damm!

I would like to thank Rudi for helping me discover the world of computing. There's a good article on him here.

How Rudie brought Apple to Australia

    Cheers

Hi All! I just joined because I was searching the Internet for something and found it discussed here. I am 71 and a recently retired piano teacher. I have been almost retired for a year and then this virus came along and everyone is on break, but permanently. I know a little bit about computers, but not nearly enough. I just wanted to say "Hi!"
