As life progressed so did the equipment and programs, getting made redundant mid '90s gave me enough funds to purchase a home PC which was essential for searching & applying for new roles. I retired toward the end of 2018 but am active on-line multiple times daily. We live in the Matamata-Piako region of New Zealand (not so far from the famous Hobbiton) so my awake times are quite different to the rest of the world.

Welcome, @Kowhai2 , I don't recall 40 column punch cards, but I certainly dropped my share of 80 column card decks, immediately after sorting, of course.....
