No GUI/Verbose boot in Windows 10

    Hi,

Having just done the upgrade to Win10, I've been trying to customize it to my liking.

    I want to:

    1. Change it to a no GUI boot.
    2. Change it to verbose (OSinfo) boot.
3 Enable the F8 key during boot.

As for number 1, I have tried everything I have found online and none of it works. First, I tried using msconfig as in the past and checked both no GUI boot and OSinfo. It wouldn't let me check make changes permanent. This didn't work. Then, I used the bcdedit command which executed, but didn't work. I then tried Easy BCD, but the metro boot was already unchecked.

I have found a registry hack for number 2, but I don't know if it works and since I probably couldn't see it without the no GUI boot, I haven't yet tried it.

I have found the supposed solution to number 3 here and other places, but again some have said it doesn't work and from the screenshots I've seen it doesn't show the option I have used most often, that being Last Known Good Configuration.

So, is there anyway to get these choices back or has Microsoft removed them?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I have no problem selecting any options at Boot tab.

You can use this batch script to enable F8 Advanced Boot Options in Windows 10.

Windows 10 does not have option for Last Known Good Configuration.

    Do they work

When you check the boxes, do they actually work? Do they disable GUI boot and enable verbose boot?

I can check them, too and they stay checked even though I can't check the make permanent box, but they don't change anything. It still does a GUI boot. I don't think the verbose box does anything either, but with the GUI boot I can't tell for sure. Maybe it's doing it behind the screen. I tend to doubt it.

Thank you for the batch file.

Does anyone know why Microsoft decided to take these options away? Last Known Good Configuration has been a lifesaver on many occasions for me.

    Thanks again.

I decided to undo the bcdedit command and when I opened Easy BCD the metro option was checked. I could also check the make changes permanent box in msconfig.

Perhaps I was getting the no gui boot and didn't know it. I got a screen with the windows 10 logo on it when I booted.

I'll wait until I have more info to make changes.

    Thanks again for your help.
