Lost "Desktop" System Folder in Navigation Pane in File Explorer

    Hi There,

I've lost the "Desktop" System Folder in Navigation Pane in File Explorer while relocating storage location to OneDrive. I moved "Pictures" & "Documents" folder locations to OneDrive okay. See attached photo for explanation of problem.

I used the following method to try to retore the Folder >>
Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10
But this didn't work. I did test the method out by removing and restoring the 3D folder so I think I was using the method okay.

Can you give me any ideas on what I could try next.

    Thanks...................Murray

Well, I'm no expert, but 'system restore' may be worth a try.
......or wait awhile until the 'real experts arrive, and there are some very good ones on this forum.

Could be stuck on Terminology here. Can you briefly explain what was the steps involved when you "relocate" the Folder?

As a last resort, Windows should allow you to create a new User Profile.

You can do this to set the Desktop folder to Default Restore Default Location of Personal Folders in Windows 10 and then move the location to OneDrive if you like

    Hi iko22

When I said "relocating storage folder" to OneDrive. I meant I was following the procedure shown in the following link. I did it successfully for the "documents" and "pictures" folders but when I did tried "desktop" folder I had the problem. I must have made some error which upset things.
Move Location of Documents Folder in Windows 10

Hope this helps narrown down the problem.

Looking at your screenshots, the Pictures folder under This PC has the Desktop icon. Have you checked the contents of that folder? If that turns out to be your Desktop folder with the wrong display name, do the folllowing:
Shift+right-click in the folder background & select:Open PowerShell window here.
Copy & paste the following code:
    Code:
    Remove-Item desktop.ini -force
Otherwise, post a screenshot of the following Registry key:
    Code:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Thanks everyone for your feedback. It is solved now. KeithM correctly identified the problem which was I had mistakenly switched the Desktop & Picture folders. In other words the Desktop folder had been there all the time but wrongly flagged as the Picture folder. I had been trying to restore the Desktop folder when I should have been trying to restore the Picture folder. So I followed spunks direction to restore the Picture folder and everything came right from there. Thanks again Murray
