Moving data from dead laptop to PC

Recently, I found my old, broken laptop, and I removed the hard disk drive from it. That laptop ran Windows 7, and I was wondering if I could put it in my pc, which runs Windows 10 Home, to transfer the files (pictures, documents, etc).

    Info
Old one is Toshiba 320 gigabyte sata 2.5 inch hard disk drive
Motherboard in current pc is msi Z87-G41 Pc Mate
I have 1 hard drive installed currently, 1 TB WD Blue

Will it cause any problems if i move the old hdd into my pc for an hour to transfer files when they dont have the same version of windows?

Yes you can just connect it to the next SATA port. There won't be any issues.

You probrley wont be able to access the data without taking ownership of folders first as it will be owned by the SID from 7

It can also be performed with an external HD enclosure.
Then the computer case removal and the reboots won't be needed.

That should be fine. It doesn't matter what the OS the hard drive was running. You can plug in the HDD and leave it there if you want. It will just be detected like an external storage drive.

Just to clarify, just plug it in as an additional drive and not to replace the drive that contains your Windows 10 OS.

I've got 5 or 6 in various enclosures.

It's a great idea because you can re-purpose the hard drive for backup images or movies on the go. I've got a 4TB drive connected to a Raspberry PI as a media server with a 12v to 5v DC converter installed in my travel trailer with 700 movies. The Pi also creates a Wi-Fi hotspots so I can watch the movies on my tablet, notebook, or phone when camping.

A bit extra work, but if you really have trouble changing permissions and getting ownership that allows access to the data, you can always boot your existing system with a Linux distro (which "ignores" Windows settings/controls) and Copy/Move > Paste the contents on to your new system.
