duplicate links on systray from desktop, but not pinned to systray

A couple of days ago I noticed that I had icon/links on my systray that had never been there before.

When I deleted them, they also deleted from my desktop. The ones that are in both places are the same link.

I check in tutorials here, and saw they might be pined. I right clicked and no unpin was there, it did have 'pin to quick access', 'pin to start'. The rest of the menu options are there; create shortcut, delete, etc.

If it was a shortcut to any of several programs, it only had 'pin to start menu'. The rest of the menu options are there; create shortcut, delete, etc.

I am running Classic Shell, and had just exited Everquest II when I noticed this. I don't think it was there before I logged into Everquest II.

I am using Windows 10 Home, 1909. Rest of info in my computer hardware listed in my profile is correct.

I would like to get all of those extra icons off my systray, without having to reinstall software, if possible. Its not all of my desktop icons, just about 10 of them.

    Thanks.

Please post appropriate screenshots, and if this refers to the system tray/notification area
[ rather than the taskbar - you mention items being pinned ].

Please identify the programs to which they belong using this dialogue, which you can also use to stop them being displayed on the taskbar.

No, it says they aren't pined when I right click on them.

I tried again on systray, and checked Taskbar settings. Under Toolbars, I unchecked Desktop. All the unnecessary icons on taskbar went away. It was all of the short cut icons on my desktop were on my systray, they are now gone.

    Problem solved.

Had you posted a screenshot, the fact that you were talking about a Toolbar rather than the Notification area would have been immediately apparent.

A screenshot is worth a thousand words, especially when you're unsure of the right word!

I said systray. I don't see that as a notification bar. I see its now called 'Taskbar'.

"Officially known as the notification area, the system tray (systray) is also sometimes..."

I wasn't trying to scold, but offer advice for any future questions you or anyone else has. Any question regarding an element of the GUI is likely to be made clearer by a relevant screenshot. It's part of asking a good question. The better the question, the more likely a quick, accurate answer.

    I wasn't upset, just puzzled.

Never saw the official term before. Always called it systray, and so has everyone I worked with for over 20 years. Before then ms-dos didn't have one.

Those were the days! No sane person needs more that 640K of addressable memory!
