    Thanks people :)
I'm definitely not a troll. We are all older at Marine Rescue, it is a volunteer organisation and most are retired.
A lot of older people don't want to take forever to work out new technology, as we often get no-where.
There are no manuals with technology anymore. Yes, I wish I had bought a Mac.
My 66 y.o. sister had a Mac for years & now has Windows 10 that she only uses for emails: she was Dux of her school so not silly. And a friend who was an editor of a newspaper for years and used computers non-stop is the same.
We all came to a screeching halt after Windows 7.
I am the one who tries a bit (and takes me days to sort out one thing). I will help them with photos now:
thanks to you guys!!!! I will mark this as 'solved' CHEERS

Do I need to use the frustrating Photo program that came with Win 10 for anything?
...no-one could use Win 10 so we reverted back to Win 7 which we are still using!

Photos is the default image viewer in Windows 10, but it tries (a bit too hard) to be a lot more than that. Too confusing for some, who'd prefer the simplicity and speed of Windows 7's old Photo Viewer. Fortunately that's still hidden away in Windows 10 and can easily be enabled.

And... it works quite well, too.

The Pool Man said; "I used Apple only for 29 years. Months short of THREE DECADES. You want to talk about something being different? HOLD MY BEER. From my point of view Windows 10 is at least 10 years behind Mac OS. And that's being polite."

Mac OS has not really changed for twenty years, I also use Apple computers, I own a 27" iMac, a Mac Book Pro and a 2017 iPad, they are all very good at what they do. My Mac Book Pro runs Catalina, My iMac runs High Sierra and my iPad also runs the latest version os.
Windows on the other hand has evolved over the years into something completely new, and while it is true that many don't like Windows 10 or dislike some of it's features, to say that Windows 10 is 10 years behind Apple OS is frankly laughable, the truth is that if anyone is behind the times it is Apple! And as for Finder being much better than Explorer, that to is untrue, it is a question of how you use and perceive them, each has it's good points and bad points.
When I first adopted Windows 10, I was one of those who disliked the start menu, was unsure about Cortana's usefulness and hated the what I saw as massive change. But I persevered because I wanted to give Windows 10 a fair chance. As the days and weeks rolled by I found that my dislike of the start menu changed to a grudging respect for it's functionality and relative ease of use, I also found Cortana to be more than an eye candy addition and often very useful. I can now say with absolute certainty that I would never go back to any earlier Windows version!
A great deal of misinformation about Windows 10 put about mainly by people who hate Microsoft or have their own agenda (looking at you Linux fan boys), but the truth is that Windows 10 is very easy to come to terms with and is really the best OS that Microsoft has ever produced, as for the Apple latest offering (Catalina) it's OK!

    1. Say I have 45 items in my recycle bin. And I ask Windows to empty the bin. It always erases some items but not all of them. That is: it appears to only have erased some. You have to do a refresh to reveal that, no, in fact they're gone.

The OS trash can? Worked perfectly since 1984.

    2. I've never seen an OS that has two settings apps. The Control Panel should have been history with the introduction of 10.

    3. Apple and most Linux distros offer attractive ways to move the 'taskbar' to the side of screen, where real estate isn't as spare. When you do it in Windows it looks like garbage. An offered feature but not the least bit refined.

    4. Apple and most Linux distros offer a system OS wide design. So if you're in Windows Explorer and open up the print queue, you don't get a new window that appears alien to the Explorer.

    5. The font is ugly on today's Mac and Linux standards. It looks... ten years old.

Listen. I don't want to go back and forth any further. I'm just a believe that Windows users are too tolerant of Microsoft. Speaking up like this wakes them up a little.

Apple has received some verbal abuse these last years for their transgressions. Like the stupid butterfly keyboard fiasco. No complaints, no fixes.

Never come across this phenomenon. Must've been something wrong with your system. User fault/error.

It's called transition, a learning curve, choice before compulsion (a concept foreign to some other OSs)

Personal opinion/choice, no substance in fact. Irrelevant.

Huh ? Why would you use Explorer to check the print queue ?

If you're so in love with Mac and Windows is so messy why are you here???

Reading your postings in this thread you sure seem eager to bash Windows users who don't see the world as you do. You also seem intent on starting a flame war. If that's the case you should start you own thread instead of hijacking the OP's thread to push your agenda.

A reminder of the thread title - Windows 10 Is PHOTO program/app necessary. NOT Windows vs. Mac

    Peace:)

Mac hardware died when Tim Cook took over. Instead of innovating he simply took away a good feature or three, added a crappy feature or two, and jacked up the price.

I usually owned an iMac and my wife a MacBook for three years, and once the Applecare expired I'd put the units on eBay. But I bought a Steve Jobs iMac and when it became time to replace it with the Tim Cook iMac -- I realized it was almost the exact same iMac but for $199 more. I had also become aware that iPhones were intentionally shipped with as little RAM as possible so that when there was a system update your phone became lead and the only fix? A new iPhone.

So the fact that Apple hardware innovation died while prices kept climbing is why I left the superior Mac OS (compared to Windows and Linux) and the superior iOS (compared to almost as good but not as good Android). I prefer the hardware options of PCs and Androids. Android OS has nearly caught up to iOS. Windows needs work.

By the way, if you were paying attention: at the top of this thread I was defending Windows 10 as not bad. And still am.

Sorry. I really don't care if you've come across this or not. Because I don't recognize you as an authority.

Oh, and here's another with the Recycle Bin: the icon will show it has items in it, you empty it, and the icon... stills shows items in it. That's not a polished impressive OS. That's ten years old stuff. And again -- that's being generous.

Always a good gambit in any discussion - open with a statement lauding with faint praise, then launch into the unsubstantiated criticisms. So that when challenged, fall back on the ersatz claim of support.
