Clean installed win 10 pro 1909. New Folder in ribbon, nothing happens

    clean installed 1909.

New Folder in explorer ribbon does nothing. Does not create new folder. It is not grayed out.

Right click menu does not have New folder option either.

Added the registry entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New

rebooted a bunch of times, and still, all users cannot create new folder.

The only way to make a folder is by command line.

help. this is pissing me off

Can you post your system specifications so I know what you're running Windows on?

Did you download Windows online using the media creation tool?

Try opening up powershell in administrator mode, and type sfc -scannow

This will check for the integrity of system files.

Then do a chkdsk C: /F and type y when it prompts you to check the disk after restart.

This is either due to a corrupt installation of Windows, or you possibly have a hardware issue. I've seen an issue like this on a system that had a bad motherboard that was loading Windows incorrectly. After I swapped the motherboard, the problem went away.

Creating a new folder is an essential Windows Function. Hopefully we can help you resolve this.

That would in my opinion be faulty hardware causing this issue.

Are you using a hard drive or a SSD? Definitely corrupted data files

i suddenly remembered I accidentally clicked a .reg file that was meant to be used in Windows 7

it jacked up my HKCR\Folder registry key.

I exported a good copy of the registry key from a working Windows 10 pc , and deleted/merged it, and now it's fixed.

For anyone else who runs into this in the future, restore a good copy of hkey_classes_root\Folder
from a virtual machine clean install or whatever.
