Well, Everything is a bit overwhelming. First you have to remember the name, and I see that I have multiple copies of the same file, plus there is no date indicated to help identify which file is the newest. I'll play with it for a while. Something the I do miss is a program called WMatch - Win 95 or XP It allowed you to compare files in folders and I used it for backing up copies on discs. Still nothing to my knowledge to compare to it.
The computer seems to be running well. It will be a while before I get everything back to the profiles that I like. Biggest loss was the registration for my Quicken version. I don't trust the cloud version and there are many complaints about it. So I bought a disk only to find that it was not able to open my backup files.

Once again, thank you much for your good help in walking me through this process. That lobster dinner still holds esp as you saved me the price of a new computer. Keep Safe and Stay Sane, and don't forget to vote. G-

You thought you'd heard the last from me?

    LOL zbook,

In the process of migrating files, I came across a folder on the external hard drive labeled "WindowsImageBackup" with a date of 2017-01-09. You wrote in post #38, "5) A backup image allows you to restore the image that was created at that moment in time. If there was malware, corruption, etc. you would not want to restore the image." Considering the date, I would say that there is no corruption in it.

Is it too late to use whatever is in this folder? (Forgive me, I'm still pathetically wishing to restore the registry data for Quicken as I have financial data that goes back for more than a decade which is lost. If you agree that I'm being pitiful, please don't hesitate to say so - my wife does all the time.)

It requires Admin permission and I have not gone any further than that popup. I opened some of the folders to see what is in them, here are some snips:

There are multiple software that can make images including WIndows.
(Acronis, Aoemi, EaseUS, Macrium, Paragon, etc)
However Windows backup images were deprecated.

If you have another drive you can restore the image to that drive.
Then you can remove the current drive and boot to the new drive.
If you decide to this by trial and error, then make a new thread in: https://www.tenforums.com/backup-restore/

"If you have another drive you can restore the image to that drive.

Perhaps I'm not understanding this process. The image restore would wipe out what I have been working on or anything on a new drive?

Would it be possible to use the external drive to restore the image if I moved the files to a thumb drive or disc? Then tell the computer to boot from the external drive? The external is 1Tb.
