desktop icon missing from user folder

Hello!

I'm having an issue with the desktop folder icon always disappearing from the user folder. The desktop folder is there but just as a plain folder. Found the post by Shawn Brink on how to check the desktop.ini file and that is good. Oddly enough I had a similar issue with is in W7 and I ran the bat file also by Shawn on restoring the desktop user folder location and it resets the icon issue I'm having now but only temporarily.

Suggestions? Registry keys to check/restore.

Yes, that's the one I've checked and it seems fine.

Just now, I moved my desktop folder location and then set it back to default just to see if it would reset whatever is going on.

Yes, for now. Sometimes a few minutes up to almost a day. If and when it disappears next time, I'll leave it and maybe there's something you'll recommend to check then, that might give a hint.

Hello Brink, so I've tried everything. The restore location batch file for desktop, the default desktop reg entry you posted, rebuilt icon cache and moved location and back again to see if that would reset it. Nothing. It comes and goes throughout the day and I can't find any reason or pattern for it. Anything else to throw my way? Thanks
