How To Write The Infinity Symbol (∞) ?

    Hi,

Every websites say the keyboard shortcut is ALT+2,3,6 but it's definitely not, whether I write on a web browser or Notepad, in United Kingdom or French keyboard setup.

I couldn't find the symbol in Character Map neither since there are so many symbols to sort.

    Could someone help me?

Which 2-3-6 do you use? Sometimes that won't work with the numbers keys along the top of the keyboard, it has to be the right-hand number key pad (not possible in some keyboards/laptops that don't have a number pad).

    OR

Using a word processing program, you could insert How To Write The Infinity Symbol (∞) ?-image.pngas a symbol, then copy > paste How To Write The Infinity Symbol (∞) ?-image.png to your document.

    EDIT
Or download one of the free mathematic symbols fonts.

It's a separate keyboard and I do use the right hand number keypad.

    ALT+236 gives me "".

A quick Web search indicates that the Alt character mapping is different on European keyboards. Atlt-236 works on a US keyboard, but not on others.

How about Unicode? The hex code for the infinity symbol is 221E. Type that, and then press Alt-X. (That means holding down the Alt key and pressing X.) It requires that the application you're typing into supports Unicode. (My version of Notepad, for example, does not. MS Word does.)

I have no idea whether it'll work.

I won't switch to a French or UK keyboard to test that.

Not sure if this will help you find it, but here's the Character Map for 'Arial' and where the right slider bar is for ∞ .

Thanks, the symbol was indeed at the bottom of the window.

Should I press the "E" of "221E ? Or is it part of the hexadecimal code? Seems to be excessively overcomplicated.

Anyway, none of the different combinations gave me the right result.

The code is 221E. You enter it just lke that. It's a four (hex) digit code for a Unicode character. It doesn't work in Notepad (no Unicode support, apparently). It also doesn't seem to work directly in a Web browser (Edge Chromium, Chrome). I can use it in MS Word 2019, and copy and paste the result into a web browser.

Seems like there should be an easier way.

In Character Map and Advance and knowing the common name of the symbol, in this case Infinity, type that name in the Search for box and that's all it will show, rest of the panel will be blank squares. Or any other search that finds nothing the panel will simply be empty.

    Alt236

Works all over the place here with the NUM Lock keyboard en-US, en-UK, fr-FR. In Notepad, you must enable <<Word Wrap>> under format. ∞

    Save As: UTF-8 encoding.txt

For french or en-UK, only left ALT works.

    Take care,
