It should affect all levels of subfolders unless the setting has also been used to apply a different template at a lower level. Also, it only appliess the FolderType and the default or Apply to Folders custom settings as far as icon style, column choice, etc. Not any modifications you have made to just that folder.

Thank you, KeithM - I think I understand that. Since I've messed with many folders over a long period of time (and not completely understanding what I was doing at the time), should I reset to defaults and begin again?

If yes, should I use Option 1 (BAT file) on Reset Folder View Settings to Default in Windows 10 ?

Well, I fyou reqally want to begin again, go witht he .bat file -- that clears everything. Then open a folder of each typpe, modifdy the view to your liking, & useApply to Folders to savve your preferences as a custom default. Be sure to do this with Downloads to turn off grouping before accessing the folder via any dialogs! Also be aware the the folders under OneDrive, though the names are identical on the Customize tab, use different templates and thus can be set independently.

All of these Folderypes can be customized via Apply to Folders
