Hi Dalchina - when I run the .exe file directly from the directory it just "Flashes" on the screen. I have been comparing the Quicken files on my previous laptop to try and replicate them (and their locations) on the new one (both are windows 10). I am still struggling to get the Quicken programme to work. Any suggestions would be welcome. I am not savvy enough to follow the instructions as previously suggested (from a Windows 7 Forum). Far too complicated for me to follow I'm afraid. Maybe it's because it's a later version of Windows 10 on the new laptop.

Just adding, this is the default Properties on the desktop icon for my Quicken 2014 and the Details tab:

As it doesn't run now, as I've said, making changes to the shortcut are unlikely to help, unless perhaps by using compatibility mode. E.g.

If that doesn't help, consider reinstalling it and in particular using compatibility mode. See the example in the link I posted above. (End of post #2)

If you installed the program by copying the program's files between computers, it may not run properly. Try to find the original installer on the old computer. Possibly "QW04DLX.EXE".

    Thanks to all on TenForums

I would like to thank all of the forum members who took the time to reply to my question. It appears to have now resolved itself. I installed Quicken 2013 - it did not validate the data. I uninstalled 2013 then reinstalled my version of 2004 and it now works. Strange but true. Thanks again everyone.
