AppX Deployment Service (AppXSVC) runs at Startup. Is this normal?
I have not concentrated on this issue before. But I noticed that on my dads Windows 8.1 machine AppX Deployment Service (AppXSVC) will not startup during Windows boot, yet under Windows 10 this will always start even when set to Manual.
I have Windows 10 1903 64-bit Pro. I have uninstalled and turned off live tiles as well as turning off background apps for all of the store apps. I also disabled the Store app and also tried enabling it as well. The Store app is not running in the background.
However, I have noticed AppX Deployment Service (AppXSVC) start up always when the PC starts up. For the benefit of the doubt I have even updated all the Windows store apps successfully without issues.
So as you can see there is no data usage for my store apps.
The question is why and is it normal? Also when I go to File Explorer and then click on the Video, Pictures, etc folder then this service will start up! If this AppXSVC is associated with the Store app then why does this start when I click on videos folder for example when I already have VLC as the default player? If the videos and pictures have nothing to do with any of the store apps then I don't understand why AppXSVC triggers to run.
I just updated Windows 10 a couple of hours ago to the latest Windows 10 1903(OS build 18362.720) from Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.329) that I had 7 months ago. This made no difference whatsoever.
Can someone reassure me if this behaviour is normal? Is it meant to really start-up?

Yes. Windows internal features are migrating to UWP apps (store), like Settings, Windows Explorer, etc.
When that service is disabled and you will try to open certain settings, it will crash, like System - About.

Apologies for the delayed response. I have just conducted this experiment by disabling AppXSVC manually using regedit by setting Start value to 4 and I do not experience those crashes that you are describing following the PC restart!
Are you sure that this service is really important for the other Windows internal features other than the deployment of the store apps? I don't use store apps and even if I do I can always re-enable manually.
Still I have yet to find out if it is really normal for this service to start by itself. It periodically stops, I know. But what is triggering it to start is making me really confused. I can see it does get triggered in File Explorer, particularly when viewing the Videos folder.
This is something I really do not understand. I'm the only one at home that uses Windows 10 so I don't have any other references for test purpose other than my dads Windows 8.1 system where AppXSVC does not get triggered in any of these scenarios.
I think your crashing is related to something else, not the AppXSVC Deployment Service because I don't get crashes or error messages with this service disabled.

Hello
I work for a company that develops a software, that runs as a service and got auto update features.
The software detects that its not the latests version. Downloads the updated exe file, stops the service, renames the old file, and finally...
My W10 64 startup has been getting slower and slower, from the windows 'blue square screen' to actually entering in my password takes around 4~5min.
It seems to arrive at the welcome screen - Mountains and Lake - (with red backpack in foreground)...
