    Unable to open a Folder

    Hi, I'm unable to open a folder, I get the following message;
"my docs is not accessible, The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable".
I cant delete the folder but yet I can rename. When I hover over the folder it shows empty, but which i look at properties it shows it has 7 sub-folders.
I can open other folders and save documents

I'm not worried about saving the info as i have a back-up.
The path is, C:\users, Davy Edwards\Documents\my docs.
    I'm using Windows 10 version 1909

Hi, I suggest you first check your disk- just in case.
    Download HD Tune 2.55

    Health and Error scan tabs.

If ok, then run from an admin command or powershell prompt
    chkdsk c: /F

Check this reports all fixed or ok.

Then try deleting the folder again.

Hi and thanks for your reply, I tried to download the software, i was able to run it but a white rectangle the height of the screen and approx 2" wide appeared on the screen. I left it for 2 hours, nothing happened, I rebooted it the problem still exists.

I tried the chkdsk command form both Powershell and running the cmd function, and I get the same message,
The type of file is NTFS, cannot lock current drive.

CHkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to re-schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts (Y/N). I chose Y and rebooted, it rebooted and opened on the normal desktop

In a Command Prompt at the parent directory, what does dir /al /ad show? <DIR> or <JUNCTION>?

Hi, run what you suggested and it shows "junction", I checked with another PC, and it is the same as it.

The first is worrying, suggesting wider problems. Try the portable version which you can run from a flash drive:
    Download Portable HD Tune 2.55

Then if that works and looks good, try - from an admin command or Powershell prompt running
    chkdsk c: /scan

    - which does not require a reboot and will show you the report. (This scans only, fixes nothing).

(It is possible to get the report from the one you ran, but it will be easier to do this).

Hi, I run the Chkdsk and it is showing errors. When I go to download the portable software it shows a number of options, along with other downloads, difficult to know which one to select. On the first screen i get either Softpedia EU or US, I selected EU, is this correct as the next screen is confusing

It doesn't matter which you select. Clearly if you're in the UK, you might select the EU server as nearer. I happened to pick the US one. To make it very easy for you- and I suggest this program quite often- I've attached it (zip file).

You could try accessing the folder (and extracting/copying the data to an external storage source) using a Linux distro program. Linux will "by-pass" any controls in Windows that prevent access. You will need to create a boot USB.

Download the Linux Mint iso file from https://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/lin...amon-64bit.iso
    Connect a USB drive
(make sure there are no other USB devices connected)
Download and run the USB creation program Rufus (freeware)

    In Rufus ...
    - the USB device should appear under Device. If not, pull down to select it
    - click Select, and locate the iso
    - select Yes/OK for any prompts to create the drive
Once the drive is completed, use it to boot into the run version of Linux Mint (I think the option is "Start Linux ....."). DO NOT INSTALL (i.e. it runs from within the computer's RAM and makes no changes to the SSD/HDD
You may have to consult your device manual on how to change the boot order – the new USB device is "Linpus" (sic)
Once booted, in Mint, navigate to the file manager (Computer or Home), and copy and paste the required files onto a USB drive (the usual Windows-type right-click Copy and right-click Paste apply).

Check that the files are accessible before trying any further solutions.

Remove the USB and reboot your computer back to Windows.

EDIT : If the files/folder is still inaccessible during the above process, it may indicate a failing drive, unfortunately.
