Notification settings per application not being retained

I've seen other mentions of this all around the web but no working solutions: Some of my App Notification settings are not being retained. Specifically, I use an old (non-Store) but just-what-I-need reminder program (Kana Reminder) and it correctly flashes a systray icon and/or pops up its reminders when they occur.

But they also trigger an App Notification popup, even though I've repeatedly turned it off, both from Settings and from the Notification window. The choice is just not sticking between sessions. I've tried to find something in CCleaner that might be removing the choice but no luck so far.

Any thoughts appreciated.

So it turns out that each app listing in the Settings/System/Notifications & Actions list is clickable and opens a dedicated dialog for that app with fine-grained controls. I did not know that because borderless buttons.

Disabling Win10 notifications from that page seems to have solved the problem. Not marking solved yet because waiting to see if the unwanted notifications return after my next hard reboot. Will follow up soon.

Oh it's not working out. Notifications are back. This app keeps being activated, no matter which selections I disable, no matter the compatibility settings, or if it's un/re/installed. Can't figure out why.

So I suggest you're really on your own with that one.. You can investigate and try to find out how the reminder setting is stored (Registry, ini file, somewhere else...)

Obsolete but fully functional. No problems with the application per se, its Windows' insistence on adding notification popups despite my deselecting them that's the issue. No other app (so far) has been overridden in this way. I think perhaps there's some functionality not hard-coded in the program that Windows has come to expect/demand. Humbug. As with many older programs, less is more, and I'll suffer through this minor PITA if I must, I haven't found any other freeware reminder that does just, and only, that: remind you of things -- no fancy graphics, no cloud sharing, minimal RAM use, fully customizable alarm/snooze frequency... it's exactly what I want in all aspects.

What's wrong with the Windows 10 Calendar you already have, with instant access from the taskbar?

Starting with Windows 10 build 18936, you can now create new events and reminders for Calendar directly from taskbar in the clock and calendar flyout.

Very odd- cannot recommend.

Never encountered any issues with Kana since 98SE - and I've used it in every Windows version since then.

Lots; two pick two, it takes way too many steps to write a simple text note to myself like "check for email coupon" and worse -- please correct me if I've got it wrong -- you can't set a reminder to recur every 3 days (or similar) -- which is a dealbreaker for me on any reminder app. Most include periods of one day, one week, one month, one year, but nothing in-between.

In any event the question is not what app should I use but why won't Windows honor the settings for this one?
