As FreeBooter says, you can only run that sfc command in a Command Prompt (Admin).

You didn't, as shown by the C:Users\*****PC > prompt in your example. It would say C:\WINDOWS\system32> if the command prompt was run as admin.

Ok as a local user with admin rites , once i type cmd into search field , i receive a prompt CMD app > click open with no prompt for admin rites. I proceed straight to Type sfc /scannow .
Is this the issue ,should i open Windows power shell as (admin ) then proceed to type sfc /scannow.
Sorry guys 67 and just trying to get used to win 10 after many many yrs with untroubling 7.

Please open the Command Prompt by typing cmd.exe into Start Menu, right-click on Cmd.exe, and open it as an administrator.

You can also run SFC /SCANNOW in Windows PowerShell (Admin). That's available by right-clicking on Start, or pressing WinKey+X.

Local admin account and the built-in admin account are two very different things. SFC /SCANNOW can only be run from [B]built-in admimistror/B] account, you cannot run it as local administrator.

You will notice the difference in prompt. If you are using a normal, local admin account, the prompt in Command Prompt shows your user folder as current location:

When using the built-in admin account, the prompt shows that your current location is C:\Windows\System32:

    Cheers all ,yes pictures aaaahhh.
At the moment win10 is steep for learning, and confusing when (1) cmd , (2)winpower shell, (3) win power shell admin are all available for selection.
Successfully completed scannow ,all good .
    Many thanks posters.
