    Windows Search Index (Icons refreshing)

I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue that I believe has to do with Windows Search Index. The issue is that the icons are blinking/refreshing around every 30 seconds to a minute. The icons on the desktop, and the ones pinned to the taskbar refresh. If I disable the Windows Search service the issue stops. I've tried rebuilding the Search Index, but the issue still persists if I turn the service back on. Any possible thoughts?

Hi, if you look at Indexing Options, does the index ever show it's completed indexing? Is there a change in the number of items indexed every 30s?

If you watch this for, say, a minute, does it always look like this or is there any CPU activity or change in the number of I/O reads?

As you probably know, what you're seeing is unexpected- I've not heard of this before myself.

If you perform a clean boot (Google or see the tenforums tutorial if unsure how), do you see the same thing happening?

Mhm, the Index has completed. Multiple times at that. Just with trying different things related to search and rebuilding again. The rebuilds were always coming out to the same amount after it said it completed.

Let me take a look and see if I can see any change in I/O reads. Currently can't do a clean boot because i'm not at the location. Will look possibly look at bringing the PC back to the department after trying a few more things.

And it's an unexpected issue for sure ahah. Something a few of the users have been experiencing and has been stumping me. We have 2 different leads. One being Adobe Creative Cloud might be involved, and the other is that stopping the Windows Search Index service stops it from happening.

You can play with disabling indexing of different locations and file types by name/content (e.g. pdf) too of course.

I'd certainly suspect some interaction with a 3rd party program- as you say you see it on more than one system that excludes disk/file system issues, and suggests something common to the configuration of the PCs. Useful to have several to cross check.
