    Can't use "Search"

Have a new Lenovo Ideapad L340 2 weeks old that was working at setup.
My customer brought it to me and can't "Search".
Can't type into Search box, lower corner of Desktop. Curser disappears as soon as you try to type one letter
Same thing in Search window in Explorer.
Also, Go to open Edge and it opens and shuts right down.
Also Lenovo Vantage from Taskbar, same thing as Edge.

My customer is a Karaoke DJ and has a ton of music and the PCDJ programs I installed. It was working OK.

    All updates are done.
    sfc /scannow found nothing.

Set Edge as default and can open web sites using Desktop shortcuts.

Out of curiosity, what Windows version - 1809, 1903, 1909?

As to the issue at hand I've no answer at the moment.

Lots of people are getting search problems in Ver 1909 and the symptoms you describe are amongst those reported.

You could advice your customer to use a third-party search utility until MS fixes the problem [which might be tomorrow or never]. I use NirSoft's SearchMyFiles but there are lots to choose from.

If a 3rd party Search engine like Everything - voidtools doesn't resolve-
Something similar happened to me over a year ago. Could not search in any search field in any browser. IE; on this forum, trying to type in search box in upper R corner, field would remain blank. Of course scannow, mouse driver, etc yielded no clues. Did a Repair Install and all well after that. You can do this in 1-2 hrs w/o losing files or programs, if the debugging time gets burdensome. Good Luck

If there weren't umpteen other reports of Search problems with Ver 1909 then I'd be tempted to agree with mrgeek. Just search TenForums for recent search problems and you'll see.

It is quite possible that a Repair install would temporarily suppress the problem only for it to re-appear in a few days time & harm your reputation [my own first symptoms were not apparent for a week or a couple of weeks after updating to ver 1909]. A Repair install would also have to involve repeating the Windows updates that have been released since the ISO / installation USB used was published but that is not likely to be any concern.

This PC also has the Edge problem. That can be fixed by using Chrome as default buy does this indicate something more serious then a 1909 Search problem?
I'll do an Install/Repair if I have to.
Not sure what the latest iso is but I'm sure its not 1909.

It must be an error in the compilation of windows after the updates. The next updates either resolve it or return to an earlier point in the system.

I hate third party fix suggestions. I think one should be focusing on fixing the actual issue at hand not hiding it with "maybe this will work" third party app suggestions.

Anyway, here's a couple of suggestions presented in this YouTube video. The first one (restarting explorer) usually works.

Here's another YouTube video on suggestions. No third party suggestions in either video

Videos linked because it's easier to show those than write a book on each suggestion spoken of in them.

    Uninstalled 1909, now on 1903.
    Same problem.
    Ins/Rep getting closer.
Still want to avoid, if possible.
