post no 998 about the taskbar button icons being too small

Did anyone found a way to make the taskbar icons larger? I looked through 10 pages of posts on the topic, hoping that a solution was found, but found none. On my 15.6" laptop the taskbar icons are truly tiny. I am referring to both the icons in the system tray and my apps which use the Quick launch style folder containing the shortcuts, numbered in the order I want them loaded.I can upsize any icon, (the British flag icon is three times the size of the original), but it has no effect. Also, a Windows shortcut accepts only .ico files, — no .jpg .png nor .svg.and the space allotted to icons is square,

How much larger you want them because the taskbar settings only gives two sizes default and small. To get into Settings right click the taskbar and choose Taskbar settings. Under the Taskbar settings look for the "Use small taskbar buttons" radio button and if on switch to off and that should make the buttons bigger. If the button is already off, well...

The other thing you could do is go to Start, Settings, System, under the Display heading look for Scale and layout and change that to a higher percentage. This will increase the scale of text, icons (to include the taskbar) and apps system wide.

Taskbar setting only makes the bar higher but does not affect icon size. I am only talking about icons.

It does for me (and always has) and I'm running the latest version of Windows 10. If it's not working for you something is wrong. Anyway re-read my post as I added another option.

@sygnus21, I was aware of the custom display settings. They were set to 140 several weeks ago and there was no change. This is a new Windows installation of February 6th but with previous installations and the same setting there was no change.

What's your screen resolution? On my laptop my screen resolution is 2560 x 1440 and the recommended scaling is 200 percent but I've got my set to 175 which actually makes things a tad smaller.

Anyway those were my suggestions. I'm out.

    Peace:)

Whilst oscer1 should have referred to right-click on the Taskbar then selecting Taskbar settings, the suggestion was essentially correct [and matches what syngnus21 wrote]. Setting & unsetting the Use small taskbar buttons control drastically alters the size of the icons in the Taskbar.

[Both these diagrams are 978x920 pixels and were taken one straight after the other on the same display with only that setting changing between them.]

If your Taskbar is not responding this way then I can only speculate that your display driver includes a control panel utility that is separately controlling Windows elements such as the taskbar icons.

The Use small taskbar buttons control has no effect on the size of icons in any Taskbar Toolbars which is what I think you were referring to when you mentioned Quick launch.

Thanks for all posts. I am familiar with the settings of the system, display, etc. The resolution is the standard 1920 x 1080, (16:9). There are no display controls to increase this, but will post this question on both the Acer and the AMD forums. The specs for the laptop are listed in my profile.
Unfortunately, when increasing the the custom scale factor, this increases everything EXCEPT the icons on the taskbar. The small taskbar icon setting is off, and the attached image is what I get when the custom scale factor is increased to 160. I tried 200 and worked my way back to 180, then 160 which also makes everything way too large and out of proportion. post no 998 about the taskbar button icons being too small-laptop-taskbar.jpg
