I have this laptop that has the black screen of death, but when I go to do to the automatic start-up repair the laptop doesn't even do that. (yes, I know turning it off and on 3 times does it, but it doesn't even do that.)
Hi, you've not stated your Windows build, unfortunately.
I suggest you start by creating a live boot disk and checking your PC will boot from that. You can then check your laptop's disk. E.g.
Toolkit Item: Kyhi’s Rescue Disk – Win10.Guru
- download the iso, then create a bootable disk from that. Creating a bootable disk from that does not mean simply copying the iso to it. Methods for doing this can be found on the internet, tenforums, and the tutorial for creating a bootable flash drive to install win 10. You'll need access to a working PC of course.
You will need to set your boot priority (BIOS) appropriately to boot from that.
Then run HD Tune from that disk (Health and Error Scan tabs). Post the results.
Run Minitool Partition wizard from that disk and post a screenshot of your partitions.
Do you have a current disk image? tenforums members constantly recommend the routine use of disk imaging for rescue situations and a full backup too.
Other possibilities:
Create or use a bootable Win 10 install medium. Boot your PC from that, click 'Repair your computer' and navigate to advanced startup options. Try running Startup Repair and post the exact result and any messages.
History:
What happened prior to this?
- was your laptop working one day, and not the next
- did it have various problems, and finally not boot
- have you just got it from somewhere
- did this happen after an update?
- etc
any clues could help. How old is the laptop?
Have you considered checking the 'CMOS' battery if it's more than, say, 5 years old?

Update the specs in the "My Computer" section:
System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums
In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)
