If you are clean installing W10 Home, then take special note of Step 24 in the clean install tutorial Try3 pointed to.

If you are connected, then Home will insist that you set up a Microsoft Account as the initial user. To be able set up your local Marc account when starting Home for the first time, don't let it connect to the internet.

Due to my unusual results I've been reviewing the clean install instruction and comparing it against what happens when I start the setup.
I boot from a flash drive. I have BIOS, my computer is about 8 yrs old.
I get 3 windows with options prior to installation

'Install Windows 10' Option: Next-Go Back

    'License Terms' Option: Accept-Decline

'Ready to install' With the following items indicated with check marks

    Install Windows 10 Pro

    Keep personal files and apps

With an Option 'Change what to keep'. Clicking in that option offers 3 other options:

Keep personal files and apps, Keep only personal files, Nothing

I selected the first one- Keep both. This screen doesn't show up in the clean install info that I can tell.
Do I have to select 'Nothing' to get a clean install?
I don't have a microphone installed and I don't see a Cortana screen and Don't get any prompts to sign in with MS.
    Thanks,
    Marc

Are you referring to a revised version of the tutorial Step 11? This has the options Upgrade, Custom. You need Custom:Install Windows only.

Do I have to select 'Nothing' to get a clean install?
Yes. But I was expecting that to be in an earlier option that looked like Step 11, not having seen installation dialogs for some time myself.

I misled you earlier because I forgot that that step had the word custom in it. I only think of custom as being when you need to alter disk partitions during installation.

Remember that with a clean install you're aiming to DELETE any existing Windows partitions and install to unallocated space. (Step 14, UEFI) (There is an exceptional procedure to create partitions into which Windows is installed)

By definition, a clean install keeps nothing that was in a previous Windows installation, although you can of course keep any partitions you had created yourself.

I rather not delete everything. But I think you are saying it's the only way to be sure.

Keeping anything is, by definition, not clean.

Rather that seems to be a repair install- replacing system files for example in the same installation.

Question: what is it, exactly, you wish to achieve?

Higher up in the thread my installation was discovered to only have an Administrator account (Not to be mistaken with Admin) and my user/name account only shows up under the C:/users and not under This PC. My whoami is Administrator.

I'm aware of that. I'm simply asking about your issues with a clean install- is that really really what you wish and need to do- i.e. are you simply finding it not possible to perform one?

I thought I might have been missing something because I wasn't being prompted before the final reboot to set up an account. I was wondering if I did the clean install and ended up in the same place but with the added task of reenter all my apps. My installation wasn't tracking whit what clean install instructions was saying.

Do you see the prompt where you have the option to delete partitions?

That's after you've selected Custom Install as mentioned in a post above. It looks like you're not doing that.
