    Problems starting a PC

    Hi

i had some issues with installing AV programs etc. So decided to install a Macrium reflect image. This worked perfectly. But then the Norton pop ups started again, so decided to uninstall Firefox....but didn’t realise saving the bookmarks, didn’t save the toolbar....rather than try to remember what I had, I thought I would restore the MR image again and make a note of my toolbar links....Unfortunately after the restore, I was greeted with the “your pc needs to be repaired ” message, tried repair and SFC and nothing helped....tried restoring an older image, but had the same problem.
so to test the 230GB SSD boot drive, I installed a fresh windows 10 PRO, worked perfectly. Using a USB boot partition manager program, I formatted the C drive 230GB and the 500MB reserved partition. Then did another MR image restore, same issue as before.
i feel certain the SSD is ok, as W10 installed perfectly, the I get MR to verify the image before restoring it and it worked the first time I restored it.

    i need some advice please

That code indicates the Boot Files are not found, i.e. the BCD data in the UEFI partitions and all that. BIOS can't pass on to OS because it can't find what to boot. Look at what you backed up on the MR image and make sure you got all the correct partition. Sounds like some were missed.

Using command prompt in repair option on windows install media, it seems the windows installation is on K drive, not C

can I simply rename the C drive to something else, then rename K drive to C, would that work ?

When you're in the rescue OS, all those drive letters may not be what they appear to be. I'm not familiar enough with all the DISKPART commands to sort this out for you, so I'm gonna let @Fabler2 , or @Bree , or @NavyLCDR pipe in.

    Or anybody else.

Thanks, been two days now trying to sort this out, I am certain it’s something simple, fairly certain it’s not hardware related.....will keep my fingers and toes crossed....

one command I do know is DISKPART , then LIST VOLUME. Gives a complete list of all volumes found. It's a start.

Since you can successfully clean install Win 10, then assuming your Macrium image file at least includes the Windows partition itself, why not restore that alone- make sure it is only that- over the Windows partition created by the clean install?

Automatic repair should then sort things out, else you can boot from a Win 10 install disk and use Startup repair.

You may want to inspect your image file to see which partitions were in fact imaged.

I mentioned that back in post #2, not sure if he has yet. Missing pieces here.

Sorry, don’t fully understand about install that alone.....only option in MR is to restore the whole image.....or so I thought...

just checked the bios and a friend who has the same Mobo has a list of all available hard drives and an up down option to chose boot order.....in BIOS features hard drive BBS priorities, however mine is showing unpopulated......see images, although in SAVE & EXIT tab it does show the devices, but says boot override in yellow,Problems starting a PC-a274bcb7-ade5-44ff-93d1-939fcd05828f.jpegProblems starting a PC-0b182e2c-e74e-4759-a4d7-b71a397720ae.jpeg

reddwarf.... example from my machine, last night's backup. At this point in the Restore, if I un-check the partitions in the red boxes, all it will restore is the C: OS partition, nothing else.
