Getting Desktop on new Tablet - help please!

    Hi
I have a new Windows 10 tablet and having problems. My old tablet was set up perfectly so that when switched on the desktop (just like my main laptop) appeared instantly with the blue Windows background and all my icons. I set up my new tablet exactly the same going into settings and down to 'tablet' etc. but...........................

Although I have managed to get my new tablet to look the same I have a problem in that when I switch it on it appears with a white screen and lots of little icons along the bottom and up the side! What I have to do each time I switch on the tablet is to click on the little square icon bottom right in my task bar which opens a box and I then have to click on the blue tablet icon to remove it. Then I click on the start button bottom left in my task bar to open that and THEN the blue Windows screen appears with all my icons just like my old tablet and my laptop.

This screen remains perfectly ok until I switch off the tablet and I have to go thru the setting up again when I switch it on again! I have compared the settings with my old tablet and they look exactly the same. Both have same latest Windows installed.

    Thanks everyone

    Moggie,

This might well be something that is generated by your tablet itself [bios, hardware & firmware drivers, ...]. Mine, just by way of example, has a screen display that appears whenever I boot it or let it go to display off and I have to swipe it upwards to get rid of it. There's no info about it anywhere.

Please post a screenshot or a photograph of this unexpected screen.

And have a look through your tablet's manual, maker's support site & any user forums they might have.

Start a new post. In the toolbar above where you are writing you'll see a picture icon Getting Desktop on new Tablet - help please!-tenforums-editing-toolbar-picture-icon.png [to the right of the hyperlink icon that has a red cross on it]. Click on that picture icon and it will open a dialog that allows you to attach a picture to your post [sometimes it is slow to bring up the dialog fully].

    Moggie,

That's the "Start screen" as opposed to the "Start menu".

Use Start Menu or Start Screen in Windows 10

Woops. The downloadable xlsx version of the tutorial index needs to be updated because that's where I took the link from. @Brink

Turn On or Off Use Start Full Screen - TenForumsTutorials

    Do it this way:
    Settings,
    Personalisation,
    Start,
Use start full screen - turn this off.

Denis, It appears that the original method was replaced in 2015 by a new one

Shawn's Tutorial https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html gives instructions on new method

Nigel, Yes, thanks. I used the link in my tutorial index and it took me to that old version. Denis

    Moggie,

Just for future reference, the photo was probably too big.

    See
    Take a Screenshot - TenForumsTutorials
How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files - TenForumsTutorials - and note what it says about having to use a file sharing service such as OneDrive for files that are too big for posting here.
