Win10 1909 x64, just wondering if there's any way to force the "Save as..." dialog to always load / run in minimized style, ie, in "hide folders" mode, so it takes up the least screen space? It remembers this setting within sessions only, and reverts to "full view" at next logon. Minor I know, but hey. THX

Your question is not clear. minimized means something specific but it does not seem to be what you mean.
Please post a screenshot of what you do want and a screenshot of what you don't want.
I'm guessing that you actually mean that you do not want the "Navigation pane" to be shown in your SaveAs dialogs, that you have suppressed it using Organise, Layout, Navigation pane but that the setting does not hold beyond rebooting.

I clicked hide folders. Then Save page. Then I held the SHIFT key down while I clicked SAVE.
The smaller box retained as the choice, even when changing tabs. I closed my browser (FF) and reopen and tried. It still retain the smaller.
I don't know if it will survive a log off/on. I'll try that now. Back in a few......................
That is indeed what I had in mind. It seems to work, surviving at least soft rebooting -- we'll see what happens next time I power off. However there are limitations:
(A) it needs to be done on a per-app basis at least once: eg:
-- I'm writing this in Waterfox, where the shift/hide method is retained across sessions
-- I opened Edge and Audacity to test if the setting was retained and it was not until manually set within each one
(B) something in CCleaner erases / resets it:
-- I just ran CCleaner, reopened Waterfox (here now) and the full "Save as" window appears. Some MRU setting?
So it sorta works ~ still hoping there's a real system tweak somewhere... Thanks for your help!
Similar to any Explorer window. If you drag the corners/sides to resize, then hold SHIFT, right click title bar and Close. 99% of the time it remembers your new settings next time that window opens. I had a hunch about the dialogue box retention and tried it, and it worked. Matter of fact, this morning I went to save something, an it was still retained. It didn't without doing that. Odd.
