You can restoring the system to factory default through the recovery partition? There is no need to create a USB to install Win 10 on your system. Go to the link and follow the steps. Hi, thanks, have found the cause - Windows Updates 11th February 2020 - KB4532693 and KB4524244 information about which is just beginning to appear online.
Totally destroyed my Acer, Store Tech is trying to do a clean install (having lost all my personal settings, files etc.) but he too is having problems, cannot uninstall these updates, nor boot in to do a re-install!!
Having checked it has also caused these problems on my 2 year old - out of warranty - Surface Pro - not usable at the moment - I hope Microsoft withdraw these and replace with non destructive updates - too late for me, I guess my Acer will be replaced, but not my Surface!

Hi, Unfortunately, not able to retrieve data, as i had already tried to use a restore point which had messed up the computer even more by the time the tech go hold of it, and also, unfortunately I live on the Isle of Wight which is an off shore island of mainland England - No Apple store on island, and we only go to the mainland very occasionally, not even annually so Apple store is not an option any time soon, and the Surface was purchased in US and Microsoft UK want nothing to do with it! so luckin out all around, but thanks for the suggestions. Am spending the weekend re=installing everything.
Also, Andrew, just read your suggestion about Chrome Book. Erm, are you saying that these recent problems are my fault and not Microsofts?!!!!
I was around computers before Windows was even born! I may be getting old and senile and not as 'up to date' as I could be, but I am far from on my last legs yet, I hope you young uns, never find life and tech overtaking you as you age!! I have a life beyond sitting at various tech devices all day, so excuse me for not knowing as much as I you think I should!

Not sure how you got that at all, I am saying windows 10 updates have been pretty bad lately causing all sorts of problems, and yes frankly if your doing basic stuff I am saying a chromebook would be better suited. Don't need to deal with windows updates bricking your machine and having to recover files and reinstall windows and all that jazz. Not blaming you for the cause. If you got a windows update and suddenly your machine won't boot it probably was the update.
Windows you might need to tinker or something to get it working or a bad update can brick it. You said yourself you don't have the time to keep up to date on this stuff, hence the suggestion. I don't think windows is suited for everyone. Chromebooks fill the gap quite nicely and cost way less than an apple equivalent who only want to overcharge people.
We have al sorts here from newbies to experts.

I like Windows but I'm up to trying other OS's . Most of my problems with Windows
were solved here. And not only by experts.
After your reinstall , If thst id the way your going might I suggest getting an external
drive and using Macrium reflect free to make an image of it.
It has saved me alot in the past, Especially since I didn't have to reinstall all my programs and data
one at a time.
