How To Convert Bitmapped Pdf To RTF or Text or Word

The pdf file is not read/ or write only. Not password protected. I have what I believe is a Bitmapped Pdf (scanned/ OCR?) file that I cannot convert to word nor can I print it again to another PDF file in order to copy and paste text. I tried FoxitReaderPortable with no success. I have come across several online converters but I do not want to upload the file anywhere. I also do not want to contact the entity that sent me the file and ask for a different version. I don't think they have a different version. Ideally I would be looking for a portable bitmapped to PDF to Word editor. A cursory GOOGLE search came up empty. I tried saving it to Google Drive, MS print to PDF and other "tricks" but I failed. Suggestions appreciated.

You need an OCR program. The good ones are expensive, professional systems. I have used ABBYY FineReader occasionally, it´s good.

Thanks for the tip. I have not used a scanner or had a need for OCR in two decades but I remember AFR : ) In my "youth" I think I even obtained a copy of ABF the way all (most) kids used to get their software but as an adult I went to the website and downloaded the trail version and it worked better than I expected.

Thanks. I forgot all about how versatile Google Docs is. Tried it and I would suggest this method only as a last resort. While some of the text was readable and of course copy and paste worked the formatting was atrocious.





I would definitely go with an OCR program and Abby worked perfectly. Of course you would have to go through the trouble of downloading the trial software and installing and unless you make religious backups and images installing any soft can be somewhat of a crap shoot.
