Problem with using OneDrive - help Newbie please!

I am trying to transfer My Docs files from my old laptop to a new Tablet - both are latest version of Windows 10. My problem is:

I can see in my vault on my laptop all my files going back for ages but when I go into One Drive on my new Tablet and open the vault all I see are a few files that I have saved since I bought the Tablet last week!

I am elderly but understand computers quite well but cannot get my head around this problem! I have synchd both laptop and tablet and have signed in using Microsoft as requested on the tablet.

Jn simple terms what am I doing wrong please?

    Thank you
    Moggie

That is a good point. Someone did mention that a while ago but....how do I check that? I thought I had only one MS Account as I have it written down with a password. On my laptop I have always for years signed in with my Google password.
    Thank you

That "good point" is very likely the issue.

Well.... I am not used to all this but I have gone into my account where there is a blank icon for a photo and according to what it indicates under this icon it seems that I have always been signed in to a 'local account'

Am not sure how to do it but I believe I have now change it to sign in with Microsoft.

I know that that is the sign in option on my new Tablet - so I will try again to link the 'one drives' and let you know.

    Thanks

    Definitely the issue.

But he could still be using a local account and have Onedrive active and linked to a MS account. Check the settings on Onedrive on both devices. It should tell you what account you are using on each one.

Yeah, they could, however; OneDrive won't sync with other PC's unless they are signed in with a Microsoft account. Be aware the files being sync'd are online which means each PC must be signed in with a Microsoft account to sync with OneDrive.

And the simplest way to tell if using a Microsoft account is Start, Settings, Accounts, and looking at "Your info". If you see an email address under your user name that's a Microsoft account.

Thanks Guru -yes....I can confirm on both my laptop and my tablet under my name there is my email address and under that the word 'administrator' So I must be syncd.

Perhaps I am then doing it wrong. I am opening my vault in Laptop and there are all the doc files but when I do the same on the tablet all I get are the only 4 files which I put on in the last week!

How to I actually move the laptop files onto my tablet - am I missing something in this process as I thought they would automatically appear.

Thanks for your patience - I feel I am nearly there.
