Search function not working when trying to save with Print to PDF

The search function in windows explorer gets grayed out when trying to use Microsoft print to PDF. This used to work before and now has stopped. Is there anything that could've caused this to happen?

Hi, could you post a screenshot of exactly what you're doing when this happens?

Also - and important given the mess explorer search is in in build 1909- as prompted by the forum when you created your post, what is your Windows build?

Guessing, has this started to occur since upgrading to 1909 (if indeed you're running 1909)?

file explorer search problems in 1909 are widely reported. Try Google:

If I might anticipate your response to dalchina's request for your WinVer data, I have also been suffering from File explorer 'search function not working' since updating to ver 1909 and the SaveAs dialog in a Windows-compliant application operates in the same way so I think you have the same problem.

    My temporary solutions are
1 To rebuild the search index - Control panel, {View by - Small icons}, Indexing options, Advanced tab, {give admin permission to proceed}, Rebuild button - I find that I need to repeat this every couple of days
2 or to use a third-party search utility instead and to paste in the path I want into File explorer / the SaveAs dialog manually. I use NirSoft's SearchMyFiles but there are several others available.

No permanent solution is currently known of, assuming you have the same problem as us others, so we have to either revert to Ver 1903 or just grin & bear it whilst awaiting a Windows update to fix it all. That update might be released next month, next year, never.

Yes it is windows 1909. I didn't know it was a common issue. I'll keep an eye out for any updates regarding this issue

    See KB4535996 CU Win 10 v1903 build 18362.693 and v1909 build 18363.693
    and its MS original https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4535996

You have to read both the v1909 & v1903 bits to see all the identified issues that the update addresses. They include
    - Addresses an issue that prevents the Windows Search box from rendering fully in the space allotted for it.
    - Addresses an issue that might prevent the Windows Search box from showing results.
