    Unknown Registry Key

    Hi,

I have an up-to-date fully patched Windows 10 Home system and have a query regarding the Registry.

Does anyone know what the following Registry Keys are used for:

    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SessionInfo\1\Applicat ionViewManagement\W32:00000000000101B4 and up to W32:000000006B2107F4

There are more than 7700 similar value keys and almost all of them have the same value of:-
    '10 00 00 00 30 30 44 56 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00'

The occasional key has data similar to:
    '10 00 00 00 30 30 44 56 53 5A CE 47 19 8C B7 49 AF A0 F6 69 3E 2E BA E8'

Having 'Googled' it to death, I cannot find any reference to these keys?

I think this has to do with the virtual desktop feature in ten, but not positive.

Yes, the value (rt hand pane in registry editor) in each case has the name

    Thanks for the quick reply.

But how does this hex data say VirtualDesktop?
    "10 00 00 00 30 30 44 56 53 5A CE 47 19 8C B7 49 AF A0 F6 69 3E 2E BA E8"

It doesn't, but the REG_BINARY value that contains that data is named 'VirtualDesktop'.

PS: I have 2,500 of them, from W32:00000000000101CE up to W32:00000000011A0436

    Thanks again, but.....

    1. How do you know this?
    2. How is this encoded?
    3. Is this documented anywhere?

At a guess, a design specification somewhere within MS. You might try having a word with Satya Nadella should you bump into him...
