The warnings were were about the method used to achieve it - akin, as I recall, to re-writing part of the USB stick's firmware with the possibility of destroying it in the process.

It was in the hope of achieving that end point that I looked into USB stick behaviour but could find no way of doing it other than trickng them into having a recycle bin.
