    Path Copy problem

Any users of the handy tool Path Copy around?

In Win 10 File Explorer if I right click the file
    C:\Users\terry\Dropbox\CD-DVD Inserts\Basics\1500x1180Quartered-2.pspimage
and use Path Copy > Internet Path, it delivers
    file://terry-2016/Users/terry/Dropbox/CD-DVD%20Inserts/Basics
which correctly opens that file on right clicking from my text editor.

Note that it has converted the Space character to %20. From this table
Ascii Table - ASCII character codes and html, octal, hex and decimal chart conversion
I see '20' is the ASCII hex equivalent.

But if the file or folder contains a plus sign like this example
    C:\Users\terry\Dropbox\Excel+VBA (Sundry)\CommonDataTypes.jpg
then Path Copy > Internet Path makes no similar conversion, but delivers
    file://terry-2016/Users/terry/Dropbox/Excel+VBA%20(Sundry)/CommonDataTypes.jpg
    which fails to open.

So I replaced the '+' in that link with '%2B' giving
    file://terry-2016/Users/terry/Dropbox/Excel%2BVBA%20(Sundry)/CommonDataTypes.jpg

Yet that too fails to open.

Can anyone suggest a simple fix please?

(I appreciate that it was unwise of me a decade or three ago to include plus signs in naming files/folders , although File Explorer has nevertheless always cheerfully opened them.)

Hi, FWIW I tried this using FileMenu Tools:
    Path Copy problem-untitled.png

    - double clicking the link opened the file in the default program.

Please tell me if this example needs to be different to match your case.

    Hi Dalchina,

I don't have FileMenuTools but the context menu part looks very similar in function to Path Copy.

(Actually, its correct name is 'Path Copy Copy', as it in turn is almost identical to an earlier tool called - you guessed it - 'Path Copy'. And the latter is what appears in the Explorer context menu.)

So I assume it would have the same flaw. Did you try it?

"- double clicking the link opened the file in the default program."
    Did it have a '+'?

Thanks, looks promising, I'll install it later today.

    EDIT:
Duly installed the trial version. Pasted a test link into my text editor, TextPad, and double clicked. Failed with same message as Path Copy Copy,

HOWEVER... I then pasted it into Word (with the additional step of making it a hyperlink, which I assume you did too) and was pleased to find that did open the file. Same from Excel. That got me wondering if the problem was down to TextPad. So in my old XP programs I found Notepad++ ... and that worked OK!

I'm a long term user of TextPad and wouldn't want to make another program my default text app. So next step is to post on the TextPad forum and also email the developer.

I'll keep FindToolsMenu for the time being as it plainly has far more function than this one. Are you a registered user? If so, what do you mainly use it for please?

Hi, good idea, if it's not a then is it b...! I've had the free version around for a long time, then got a giveaway.

To be honest, I don't use it much.. I always think it must be useful. Some of the things it does you can do in other ways e.g.
    Path Copy problem-1.png

Like Shellexview and more, it allows disabling context menu entries, but without providing a means to jump to the registry key.

You can manipulate the context menu conveniently, adding separators, entries, moving items up and down.
    Path Copy problem-image.png

then there are odd surprises like this:
    Path Copy problem-3.png

I don't recall which of these is only available in the registered version.

Thanks. I'll get around to exploring those features, although as you say many of them duplicate others, including various Nirsoft tools. The 10 euros (about £9 or $12) apparently gives you:

    • Custom commands.
    • Unlimited number of files/folders. Free license only lets you use the context menu commands with up 20 files/folders.

Back on topic, I may reconsider my loyalty to TextPad and switch to Notepad++. (Despite its two plus signs!)
