    Changing downloads folder location

I accidentally changed my downloads folder location to D:\ partition.

I want to change it to a folder called DOWNLOADZ_NEW in D:\ partition, how do I do it?

    I'm using Windows 10 version 1909. (build 18363.628)
This is how the downloads folder looks like in the left side menu of Windows explorer.

Nearly all my downloads are done with Firefox. In options, you can define the folder, you want the downloads in.

    1. Create a folder called DOWNLOADZ_NEW on D:
    2. Open Chrome.
    3. Navigate to Settings
    4. On the Settings tab, go to Advanced
    5. In Advanced, click Downloads
    6. Specify D:\DOWNLOADZ_NEW as the Download Location

I already know how to do browser modification for downloads. I want to move the downloads folder to a new location within the Windows 10 explorer interface.

The tutorial section is the place to look:
Move Location of Downloads Folder in Windows 10

    Please take note of this
It is highly recommended to create a system image backup first to make it easy to undo if you were to make a mistake in the steps below.
and make sure you create a disk image (so repeatedly recommended here) before doing so e.g. Macrium Reflect (free)

It's easy to make a bad mistake doing this, and it's almost certain no-one is going to help you try to recover (it's too hard).

Rt click it and use the Location tab.

Personally I leave the default folders alone, and create my own. They can be added to libraries as necessary.

I have already changed my download location as explained in the original post. The trouble is, that the location has become the entire D:\ partition! I want to make it just one folder inside D: drive.

Maybe you have accidentally clicked on D? Anyway, you can do it manually: Run CMD and copy/paste:
    Code:
    md "D:\DOWNLOADZ_NEW"
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}" /t REG_SZ /d "D:\DOWNLOADZ_NEW" /f
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" /v "{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}" /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d "D:\DOWNLOADZ_NEW" /f
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" /v "{7D83EE9B-2244-4E70-B1F5-5393042AF1E4}" /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d "D:\DOWNLOADZ_NEW" /f
    taskkill /im explorer.exe /f & explorer.exe

Thank you very much for troubling to reply. That was a bad move.

I Googled - Win 10 Change Downloads folder from C to D drive -- and found two answers that address this - BUT - I know enough to Not Know (with D:\ as Dnload Target) HOW you Update W10 + Apps on C, assuming IT is an SSD with Win 10 OS + Apps, and D is your data Drive as mine is.
My Downloads go to C:\ Desktop -- BUT I SAVE all data TO "D:" Data HDD.
I read that You'll have to make some edits to Windows\SoftwareDistribution IF D is Dnload Target so Win Updates can work. Too messy for me.

Make an Image with Macrium Free (or buy it or a preferred Image maker) & SAVE to EXTERNAL Bkup Drive, and Google what I did , read and decide on a plan IF the Answers here don't work.

    Craig,

You are right to be skeptical about the other info you found online.

User folder locations can all be set with simple Registry edits if the normal 'Properties, Location tab' method cannot be used.
All user folder relocations are covered in TenForumsTutorials.

I have never seen any reason to believe that Windows update is affected by any user folder relocation.
