    Prefetch in Windows

Why is Windows running random programs in the background? E.g., SEARCHFILTERHOST.EXE, SEARCHPROTOCOLHOST.EXE, UPNP.EXE, its like running every 10 - 20 minutes. The mouse icons shows a loading circle when a random program is running.

There are many background processes running all the time. Perfectly normal. The 2 SEARCH ones you mention are keeping the Indexing up to date. The UPNP (Universal Plug and Play) is looking for any newly attached devices, including thumb drives, external drives, etc.

Far too many to try and describe them all. Nothing to be concerned about.

The Circle that looks like "loading" is the "working in background" or "Busy" indicator. Normal. It can be visible more if you have a slower CPU. Again, nothing to be concerned about.
