    Windows 10 home wont fully change to English language


    My son was given a laptop from a Spanish friend, and it was set to fully Spanish.

    I worked my way though the usual to change it over to English, and have got it in English for the most part.
    Added English pack, removed Spanish, set all setting for English for new users and welcome.
    I've even created a new Administrator, since "Administador" was annoying. And hoped that would set it all to English.

    However there are some parts that remain in Spanish, like certain parts in the computer management, or any of the old command prompt programs output (like sfc and dskchk have Spanish outputs).

    How do we get it to purely English throughout? I don't even mind a reinstall, but it didn't come with a disc for windows 10 home.
    Or can you download an install from Microsoft to install over itself, using it's current licence?

    I've done all that, and on the surface it looks like english, but there are deeper bits, like all dos commands that report in spanish, and parts all over the computer management in spanish.

    Getting the install media from Microsoft is the easy part. Use the Media Creation Tool to make an install usb. You will have a choice of languages to download, you can choose English (US) or English (UK), whichever suits your needs.

    Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

    The more difficult part is deciding exactly which version of Windows 10 Home to install. Possibilities are Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Home N and Windows 10 Home Single Language. The install media for Windows 10 will contain all these editions (and Pro and Education too).

    Look in Settings > Update & Security > Activation. It should tell you there, and say 'Windows is activated with a digital licence...'.

    A digital licence is stored on the Microsoft activation servers and is linked to the hardware ID of the PC. A digital licence allows you to clean install the same edition of W10 as you had before and skip entering a key if asked. Then if asked which edition to install, choose exactly the same as you had before (Home, Home N or Home single language). It will activate automatically as soon as it can contact the activation servers.

    If this machine was supplied by the manufacturer with Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 pre-installed by the OEM then the situation is easier. There will be a key embedded in the bios. The clean install will detect this key, use it to decide which edition to install and activate Windows 10. You can check to see if it has an OEM Key with ShowKeyPlus.
