Windows explorer search 1909 boken, freezes, crashes not responding.

Since updating to Windows 10 1909 the search bar in explorer is painfully broken. It's slow, bugs out, freezes and hangs. Windows explorer stops responding and even crashes. Searching for anything gives me results but then I end up with a grey search box and I have to close explorer to use it again.
This also happens when using another program to open or browse for a file, the search box hangs and freeze and eventually explorer will crash along with whatever program I am using.

Any one else encountered this? I'm really regretting upgrading :/

I think we can conclude the answer is ...yes...

If you have upgraded from 1903, just uninstall the 1909 enablement package (listed as a Windows update) to go back to 1903.

You have Pro so can take control by setting upgrades to be deferred for 365 days, and updates to 'Notify' in group policy.

Oh wow...I wasn't expecting so many to have the same problem!

I am unable to roll back because the update was installed more than 10 days ago, but if i go to uninstall updates it takes me to this screen, however it is not giving me any option to uninstall the feature update to windows 10 1909 via enablement package (kb4517245)

I'm guessing i have to remove the three others that came afterwards first?

Here's an article that may help you to Uninstall Windows 10 Feature Update In particular 1909.

Curious- I updated a PC from 1903 to 1909, quickly found the file explorer search problem myself, and within a couple of days simply uninstalled the enablement package using the screen you show. I suppose it's possible MS has arranged for the uninstall option to be removed under certain circumstances. (I had done no further update after having installed it, which could be a factor).

Note: tenforums members continually and tirelessy recommend the routine and regular use of disk imaging. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free-paid)
Before any upgrade I always make sure I create a current disk image, then upgrade. Thus I have another way back should that prove necessary by restoring a disk image.

After I installed the "optional" update last week or was it 2 ago, which should "fix" the broken search of Explorer, I have randomly now the issue ,that Explorer and entire Windows 10 blocks and freezes, randomly, when I "save to" in Chrome into Download folder. First Chrome freezes and then more and more parts of Windows 10, task manager, start menu, nothing works anymore and after 5-10 minutes Windows restarts Explorer. It also randomly happens that I browse to a folder and then suddenly the search bar in Explorer starts to progress and nothing happens anymore and Explorer freezes. How incompetent can you be at MS?!

Judging from the posts on the web regarding that update, you are among the lucky ones. There have been a wide range of problems: BSOD, very slow boot, freezes, drivers failing, etc. ... whatever "etc." might mean with that range of dissimilar problems. And others in those threads reporting no trouble at all.

Whatever is wrong with that update, the symptoms seem to be highly dependent on the environment. Problems like that are a real bugger to diagnose. Your best be is to uninstall the fix.
