I went to college and got my MCSE. My work consisted of building personal system, workstations and servers. Installation of workstation and servers. Installation and configuration of workstation and server OS. Just getting all the computers talking in a network was just FUN! Didn't make big money but I loved what I did. If you love what you do then it's not about making big money it's about being happy!

    Hi there -

I did it all - the timing then was just perfect!

In today’s changing economy, I wouldn’t even consider it. It’s a true commodity item now.

Best bet is in software, especially in the areas of Cybersecurity and Data Mining. And yes, you want to be fairly wealthy, especially with the astronomical costs of medical and dental insurances.

Another great choice is in Medical Informatics.

Hope this information helps guide you in the right direction. A college degree is critical and the military is a great place, like the USAF.

    Cheers.

I am going to college in a few years and wanted to do pc repairs and/or open my own place. I had a question for you guys who own your own tech repair places/owned your own tech repair places: what education did you have if any?

Any comments or info would be helpful.
Don't even think it, people are not willing to pay the money it takes to do a job properly and once you have touched the computer every fault that ever develops on it is your fault that you should fix at no charge.

If you want to go into IT it's best to do something where you don't have to put up with the public such as database or systems admin etc.
