understood. wish i woulda never had to use it myself. though I did a <mach2 display> to see the enabled flags on all 3 pc's initially. the desktops both had double flags. the laptop did not.

wish i knew what the deal was with that but information out there is exceptionally limited. Oh well, only willing to spend so much time on it.

perhaps microsoft will announce its pushing it proper next update, then I can wait for the onslaught of people that dont like it that will eventually track it down and find a more concise way to get rid of it.

i loathe redundancy in the way that it displays windows update, when windows update icon is literally 6 inches below. shows reward points (does anyone use that? cause i dont even know what they are). Shows onedrive which I dont use. and apparently it shows phone for some people (not for me as I use iphone which isnt supported i presume)

aaaanyhow. dont let me keep ya. just flapping my gums :P
    One last comment......

The Rewards is a back-handed click-bait to get you into the "Buy Me!" area. No thank you.

lol feel free to comment to your hearts content. I just didnt want you to feel obligated.

though, to that end - I have somthing to add as well. If nothing else, for the poor soul searching for this stuff in the future.

It appears, tied to insider account AND machine in some way. I did like the release candidate ring as ive used it for many a moon without issue.

however best i can gather, between experience, observation, and what I see on the net.. is its an insider feature, but only pushed to limited people for whatever reason.

for all i know, that reset of wumgr i did somehow refreshed my hardwareID or something, or it was pure coincidence.

nonetheless MS seems to have hit one machine with it, and not the other. The laptop has had it forever, but the laptops been in the fast ring, slow ring. heck - every ring.

I'm now working them out of the insider builds to my chagrin. Laptop I cannot yet as its currently on a future build and as such, you can change rings, but not leave until the next live version so like.. april i think? ugh

anyhow, the reason this is relevant is that if I opt out of the insider ring on both my machines and leave the insider program, then run a <mach2 display> i return with nada. No flags. no fancy stuff whatsoever.

While ive assumed this before, i do actually think this means im free :P

well, some more reading. looks like the next major update will push it anyhow sans-rewards advertisement anyhow.

till such a time, ill hang out in the normal folks ring :P
