fwiw in case you want to give it a rip on your machines. I played for a bit. I was able to enable it and disable it on my second pc on a whim.

the interesting part is, it offers the flags <enable> <disable> and <revert>

enable and disable are self explanatory. Revert restores things to how they're supposed to be. the default based on identifiers above my paygrade.

Needless to say, running revert on my main pc turned that god awfulness off.

so how or why it got flipped on, is beyond me. But it shouldnt be there on RC builds as its only on my slow ring build on my laptop and has always been the case (since inception or thereabouts anyhow).

I dislike it, and am glad this worked out. Plus the tool gives you access to a ton of other feature/flags should you decide you want to play. A lot of insider stuff is technically already ON your pc, just not turned on.

Another day, another problem solved :)
Glad that fixed it for you. Keep that in your Tool Box.....

aaaaand woke up/restarted my pc (not sure if it was back before the restart, or due TO the restart) but its back.

jesus.

gonna simply use the disable flag instead of revert. apparently m$ suddenly wants this pc to have it even though its supposd to be a beta/testing thing.

like the amazon prime channels feature on the shields. one of my shieldtv's has it, the other doesnt.

that stuff is so annoying.

It's possessed. Bummer...........

No guarantees, but you could try an in-place repair and see if that clears the cobwebs. You won't lose anything.

one day i'll have to try one of those (after making an image).

always been afraid of what it potentially "would" touch that was unintended. Like i was mentioning, i have years into customizing this windows install for my workflow. From softwares, to registry edits, to automated scripts running at startup, local group policy, even simple stuff like theming.

I always tell my wife. If the house burned down and took all my backups with it (i keep one in the sky now :P) i'd give up computing for life most likely lol.

Reg edits, and some group policy would revert to default. All else would remain. You can export your Reg edits and merge them back in. Takes about 20-25 minutes.

well, i might be forced to consider that option. I even used mach2 to set the flag to disabled, and it still popped back up.

I dont understand it. I literally ran that windows update disabler script/undid it, which caused it to appear.

I rolled back via macrium image to a half a day before i even looked at the thing.

At no time has sync been enabled.

and even flagging it as default or disabled its now re appearing.

This is on the build you noted in only the RC ring.

hasnt been there for years, now it simply will NOT go away. And of course only on this pc which is mind blowing as you'd think it would be on the one right next to me if it were tied to account.

Try a test.....

Create another user on your machine. Make up a new MS account for it and set it up just like you, all the same general settings. Sign in using the new test account and see what happens. You can always delete/remove the test account.

what would that point to? make another M$ account you mean? as i think thats a requirement.

I think it could also be tied to having double entries for some reason

That flashy "not new" settings banner is MIA on 1 of my 3 pc's-image.png

when i checked after it popped back up, the initial one i disabled was still present under Disabled, and there was a new one under Enabled. I disabled that one as well, now I have 2 under disabled.

No clue what the deal w/ doubles is, but hopefully that nixes it.

what an obnoxious thing.

It may point to it really is tied to your account up in the cloud somewhere. Can't help with the mach2 thing, I stay away from it.

understood. wish i woulda never had to use it myself. though I did a <mach2 display> to see the enabled flags on all 3 pc's initially. the desktops both had double flags. the laptop did not.

wish i knew what the deal was with that but information out there is exceptionally limited. Oh well, only willing to spend so much time on it.

perhaps microsoft will announce its pushing it proper next update, then I can wait for the onslaught of people that dont like it that will eventually track it down and find a more concise way to get rid of it.

i loathe redundancy in the way that it displays windows update, when windows update icon is literally 6 inches below. shows reward points (does anyone use that? cause i dont even know what they are). Shows onedrive which I dont use. and apparently it shows phone for some people (not for me as I use iphone which isnt supported i presume)

aaaanyhow. dont let me keep ya. just flapping my gums :P
