    Solution has been found

Having stripped down the PC and thoroughly cleaning the computer, I can report that it is running reliably and the only reboot that happened was 10 minutes after I started the PC. It must have coughed out the last bit of dust because it has run beautifully since (which was 3 weeks ago), so I consider it all clear and give it a green light.

Thanks to all those who responded to this thread, especially Dalchina, much appreciated.

Happy to hear things have improved. Note this- affects a few- and may have nothing to do with what you've seen..

Thanks Dalchina, and thank you for all your help. I know I have learnt a lot from this whole episode. I will take a look at the link you have given me. My PC is going well now. I'm glad about that. Stay safe and healthy, it is a very new world. Regards.

One important line in that article:
Only a small subset of consumers appear to be impacted, but the number of reports is growing.
I don't recall seeing anybody reporting the bug on this forum. (I could have easily missed one or two reports, but there certainly has not been a flood of them.) I have that fix on 3 of 4 computers with no problems. I haven't put it on my wife's laptop yet even though it will probably be fine.
