    OneDrive Issue

I have two W10 laptops (both version 1909) and I use OneDrive.
Is there a way to de-synch my desktop.
In other words, there are files I want on one desktop, but not on the other.

(Note: right-clicking the file and choosing to keep on this device does not do the trick. If I delete it from my second computer's desktop, it gets deleted from the first computer's desktop! I would prefer not having the desktops synching at all, but I can't seem to do that.

Change OneDrive sync settings on Windows 10

    • Select the OneDrive icon in the taskbar.
    • Select More > go to Settings.
    • Click on the Account tab > Choose folders.
    • The 'Sync your OneDrive files to this PC' dialog box should now be available on the screen.
    • Uncheck the folders you don't want to sync to your PC > hit OK.

How to Change OneDrive Sync Settings in Windows 10

    Do this on both computers.

    Still no joy

It will not let me uncheck Desktop (says can't stop synching folders). It does take me to Manage Backups. I'm hesitant on what to click next after manage backups when I click desktop -- do I say to stop backups?)

When I do it, I get this:

    OneDrive Issue-image.png

which I don't want to happen either. What I would expect is what you said, just stop syncing and leave everything ASIS. Appears that is not possible, sorry.

    It does work

That message is what was offputting to me -- very intimitating.
Anyway, I backed up the computer and tried it.
It worked, but most of the desktop icons were gone.
But that desktop was in the OneDrive folder, so I was able to move and folders I wanted from that desktop to the my PC desktop (which is what appears).

    Does that make any sense?

Yes, it does. It temporarily lost those Desktop icons due to the un-syncing. But now that on the one machine that is UN-synced, with the Desktop folder local only, you were able to manually put it right. It should remain that way. It's a little like Winnows syncing in Settings....... if you had multiple PCs with the same theme synced, you would need to uncheck that in sync settings to manually have a different theme in the one PC.

There should be an option to keep files ASIS when you turn of sync for a folder.

Super. I didn't see it either. I was saying Microsoft should add an option. I'm glad (and amazed) that there is an option like that. No I need to go find it and make a not on how to use it.

I don't see an option to do that. Can you point it out to me pleaase?

Not sure if this will help you

    Ztruk:

I was able to de-synch the entire Desktop from OneDrive.
I was not able to de-synch specific folders.
Let me know if that would be helpful and I'll indicate what I did.
