Can you give an example of leakage of your personal info that you would find compromising or damaging?

And, I'm not talking about security, such as bank passwords, or stupid moves like posting nudie pics on Twitter!

The 4th amendment of the American constitution states: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

It does not matter what you think is or is not personal information to other Americans, thankfully.

Any personal info collection/info can be compromising. It's not always specific instances as much as it is the potential for an entity to come along and compile all the data profiles available on a given individual...computer operation, cell phones, credit card usage, grocery store discount cards, cameras every ten paces...all of this can be compiled to give a pretty good picture of an individual on many counts.

It's not necessarily what happens now, but the potential.

To answer your question, my computing activities in general. Where I go, what I do, what I buy, my political bent and more.

We really don't want to get into a political conversation here, as it's frowned upon, but who here believes that the compilation of personal data profiles from the many sources is something the gov't could resist, or that said possession of such profiles could be trusted to be discretely used for the benefit of the population?

If there's even a chance of my personal data being misused, I choose to do everything I can to limit the amount of data available. IMO, it's shortsighted to believe that this data won't be used at our expense.

Again, though. What I'm really looking for are recommendations on how to lock Win 10 down and avoid Update catastrophes.

The only effective way that I know to have that, is to use win 10 enterprise or education, win home and pro are consumer rolling release and they do not honour gpedit settings, or they randomly change registry settings and features.

    HTH.

Please provide examples of Windows 10 Pro not honoring gpedit settings, or randomly changing registry settings and features.

No Social Media whatsoever. As to Android, I root my phones in order to lock them down.
What did you do with root access that has locked down your privacy to your device only? Do you use any Google apps even after rooting?
