i have a problem with my windows 10 desktop (1903 built 18362.952) where the icons will be blanked (see the attachement with the red squares) - how do i reset it? it also appears in file explorer. it does not effect my programs operation however.

When I see those blank icons it has always meant the path to the file they were associated with was broken, Windows couldn't find the file which usually is an executable/.exe. Could right-click them and check the File Location in Properties.

Did you try the Change icon button then choose the icon and see it that restores it?

Then I'd make note of the file location/s, delete the icons and right-click those files and choose Send to, Desktop (create shortcut).
