Am about to 'try' and change, would love a free version, but can you tell me if my Microsoft Office 2010 will work also will my Windows Live Mail work??

MS Office as far back as Office 2000 will continue to work after upgrading to W10.
I don't use Windows Live Mail, but others do in W10, for example: Unable to access new Gmail account using Windows Live Mail/Windows 10
WLM was part of Windows Essentials 2012 and is long out of support. It may be time to look for something newer...

I installed a 1999 copy on all my upgraded Win7 to Win10 computers and my Office 99 works great.
My 2012 W7 Dell desktop had MS Office Starter 2010 installed by Dell. After 2016 free UPGRADE to W10, MS Office Starter 2010 was still there and working perfectly.
Windows Live Mail also survived the 2016 free UPGRADE. Switched to W10 Mail app few years ago. Never uninstalled Windows Live Mail. Yesterday had to use WLM to print an email that the W10 Mail app would not print. I have my gmail, yahoo mail, and isp mail added to W10 Mail app.
The only software that did not work after the free W10 UPGRADE on my Dell was Norton Ghost 15. Ghost is installed, doesn't work, can't uninstall. I still use Ghost boot CD for images, etc. Also use Microsoft image software.

Officially, MS say that Office Starter 2010 is 'incompatible' with Windows 10 and will be removed on upgrading to W10. The full Office 2010 is certified to run on W10.

Older versions of Office such as Office 2007, Office 2003 and Office XP are not certified compatible with Windows 10 but might work with or without compatibility mode.
Please be aware that Office Starter 2010 is not supported. You will be prompted to remove it before the upgrade starts.
Indeed, attempting to upgrade W7 to any version of W10 from 1511 onwards will insist on uninstalling Starter 2010. However, the original release of Windows 10 (build 10240, version 1507) did not uninstall it (an oversight, perhaps?). And having survived the upgrade to W10, all subsequent upgrades leave it installed. I too have a fully functional Starter 2010 running under 1909, originally installed in the OEM W7 from Toshiba.
I completed an in-place upgrade of Windows 7 to Windows 10-1809 last month on my wife's Acer Aspire Laptop. She also had Microsoft Office Professional 2010 (32 bit) installed and all of the apps seem to function correctly except for particular Excel files.
The odd thing is that I tried Libre office (64 bit), Freeoffice (32 bit), and updating Microsoft Office to M$ Tech (64 bit) and the same few Excel files failed to display cell content. Libre office 32 bit will display content in those protected Excel file.
The only difference between these few files and the endless Excel files that work properly is that the files are Protected by the author.
Office 2010 runs fine on Windows 10.
You will receive notifications that support for Office 10 will end on October 13, 2020. If you want to update, I'm unaware of any deals like the 2010 home & student (low price for 3 PCs). The 2019 Home & Student is roughly $100 per seat.
I stopped using Windows Live Mail some years ago. I don't recall why, but it may have been due to the way it handled multiple accounts. I use Mozilla Thunderbird these days.

Before you start it is always a sensible precaution to make a system image of the PC in case you need to restore it to how it was before you tried. You can use Macrium Reflect Free for that.
